| | Posted: | | | | This is a discussion going on at another forum for BluRay users. Looks like Universal is going to start releasing DVD/BluRay combo for previously released BluRay titles. Some other studios have already been releasing a DVD with the BluRay.
Though I would see how users other than just BluRay owners feel about BluRay + DVD combos. | | | Are you local?

That being said, I am surprised how often I watch a flick on my ipod while travelling. Using my laptop to watch a blu-ray is not really practical unless I have acess to an AC outlet and I don't miss the extra bulk of packing my 8" portable DVD player in my carry-on as well as my Laptop (I am NOT gonna be checking that  ) and an assortment of DVDs. I have 39 movies on my Ipod with room for plenty more before I have to start getting choosy. And all in the palm of my hand. Truly we live in the age of miracles and wonders.  |

I've bought a few discs, though, each because of this or a similar option. Wizard of Oz is BR-only, but came with the MGM doc on DVD, so I've enjoyed that thus far. Pinocchio I bought because it's a favorite and it's contains both formats. Mad Men S2 format-neutral pricewise so I opted for that. Star Trek is just a big spectacle I'm looking forward to (I'd have waited but was keen on getting the Target model Enterprise ltd ed).
ST is also the first digital copy I've used. Pretty painless process. The pq is fine and it was nice to be able to enjoy the film now. Apologies if this crosses a line (I'll edit if it does), but I've made iPod compatible copies of a handful of my DVDs at lower but iPoddable quality (300-600 mb for a 2-hr movie, depending). Not the prettiest, but ST is 1.83 gb and is still at the same bit rate. Can't say that I'd want to give up that much real estate on my iPod. |

First off, the digital copies don't work on my Zune, so to me they are completely worthless (not gonna watch on desktop, I have a 67" HD-TV for that). So if I want something on my Zune, I just rip the dvd with dvdfab and shortly later I'm watching on my portable. It also looks very good when output to a TV through composite cables, not quite dvd quality but close and great for travel (as long as the hotel TV's have working inputs, last time in Vegas they didn't). |

But I like the double-packs, so I can port the DVD over to my friend's house when I get to pick the movie on movie night. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Now like the Up movie for example i can watch the blu-ray on my big screen but if my kids want to they can also watch it on their dvd player in their room.(my kids watch movies they like over, over, and over....) Great idea!! |

| | Posted: | | | | I like having both the additional DVD and the digital copy. I have 2 1/2 BD players (Living room, bedroom and college daughter's laptop), but many DVD players and other laptops. I put the larger (PC) digital copy on a portable hard drive so travelling I have many copies to watch/choose from without carrying a stack of DVDs, and my daughter will occasionally put a digital copy on her iPod.
