I tried restoring from Backup.dpb to the new user but just wont restore . It says complete but without any data geting transffered . please if u could explain the procedure to backup in a detailed waY .

Open DVDP
Choose File->Backup Database->Full Backup
The file should be (depending on your collection size) a couple of dozen to a few hundred megabytes in size (for example: my backup file with ~2500 profiles is 380megs)
Copy that file onto your other computer.
New Computer
Open DVDP
Choose File->Restore Database->Restore All Profiles

| | Posted: | | | | Another method not mentioned is to use your primary laptop as the base version that you manage and update your collection as necessary. Then you use DVD Profiler Online (as you are a registered user) as the synchronisation tool on your other laptop to download your collection.
Laptop 1 Primary installation that you manually manage your collection as per normal.
1) After any changes (or first time), make sure you synchronise with DVD Profiler Online (Online -> DVD Profiler Online...) and Upload your collection.
Laptop 2 Secondary installation that is viewed as a copy only.
1) Install DVD Profiler as per normal and enter your registration details.
2) Online -> DVD Profiler Online..., but this time Download your collection. This will take a long time the first time, but thereafter it will only need to download the changes i.e. it fully synchronises the two.
Caveats;
* Only use Laptop 1 for making changes and Laptop 2 for a copy version. Unless you are careful and remember what state either Laptop is in with respect to last synchronisation and latest modifications.
* If you have manually updated any profiles on either Laptop and these have not been submitted to DVD Profiler Online, these won't be replicated on the other instance.
* Certain fields are not supported by DVD Profiler Online and as such won't be synchronised. This may or may not change in the future - if you want the full replica, then the restoring backup is your only option.

(why make it difficult?)
Desktop
database on drive
(share the database directory)
Laptop
open new database - search using network to find share from desktop.
The only think you can't do with THIS version is have the database open on both desktop & laptop at the same time. But.. this way you can update the same database using both laptop & desktop. | | | | Paul |
