This is a new one to me...the DVD credits read "Based on a premise by John Long".

What should his writing credit be?

OMB?

The Rules for OMB:

Quote:
Adapted from another medium.

And in the Inveles program itself:

Quote:
(book, poem, song, etc.)

I don't think a premise is really a medium. That woudl have to be a published work or at least something potentially publishable. (Memento was based on an unpublished novel, for instance.) This sounds like story to me.

If it isn't OMB, it can't be entered.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Well, it could be OCB but that would have to be researched.

The DVD, Cliffhanger UPC 043396-071209, has his credit as OMB which I didn't touch.

I was just curious what others thought because I had never seen "premise by" used before. Thanks.

After giving this some very careful consideration my martian friend probably has it correct. OCB MAYBE but that is probably a stretch. As for story by that is an absolute NO, sorry Ace, read the rules for what Story by is and how the credit reads, this isn't even close to match, so Story is out of the question. It can only be OMB or OCB, OMB seems unlikely; a premise is  another medium?...I don't think so. and OCB seems a stretch.

So a The Martian says, "If it isn't OMB, it can't be entered."

That said I might use the Other Role under Writing for it for local data.

'Premise' without more evidence sounds like it was never committed to another medium, so I think it's just not credited at all.

Really?

Original Material By  Adapted from another medium.

Where's the medium, is it a BOOK, is it a PLAY, Is it a POEM. Nope not OMB. OCB is the ONLY possibility but I agree with martian as I explained earlier. We can't credit it. But it certainly does not meet the definition of OMB at all.

Doing a little research it appears John Long is the author of many articles and books on rock climbing. According to the first web site it appears that OMB is the correct credit.

"John Long | LibraryThing
Books by John Long: How to Rock Climb!, How to Climb Series: Climbing Anchors, ... His novella Rogue's Babylon was adapted into the movie Cliffhanger, ...

In order for someone to adapt something from a premise, doesn't the premise have to be on some medium? It doesn't have to be published in order to be a medium...
