When I attemted to add a few DVDs last night, the program displayed an error while refreshing the online profile list that is being downloaded before the "Enter UPC" mask pops up.

I don't have the error message any more, it said something to the effect of the program not being able to open / read /write (?) the local database stored at the default location assigned by the program.

I didn't pay too much attention to said message since the window did pop up fine anyway.

However, the program now does not recognize ANY UPC / EAN at all, neither those of the new DVDs not currently in my local db, nor those of older DVDs already owned. Also, the "Add by title" function does not work anymore either, the DVD titles are not recognized.

The available total number of DVDs in the "Add DVD" window counts to 1.800 only.

I already tried the "Refresh Online list" function, a database repair, and several re-starts of the system, to no avail.

I think I need to download the complete online list once more, but fail to find the way to enforce that on the program manually.

If that is not the problem I'm facing, I'd appreciate other suggestions to solve the problem.

Thanks in advance,
Lutz

How about a local backup?

Try running restore if you have one.

Thanks Skip, I fixed it by downloading the online list through my browser (F.A.Q. # 2).

I didn't think of checking the FAQ last night when the problem occurred.

This proves again, that a calmer mind set and thorough search of the available sources usually provides the answer.

Anyway, thanks nonetheless and have a good day.

Be sure to keep local backups, or somewhere that is accessible. With 13 GB iof backup, most of it my graphics files whicj are not uploadable to Invelos, I would pull out ALL of my hair if I lost them. I keep local and off-site backups just to be safe.

I regularly back-up, don't worry.

The problem at hand didn't have to do with the local db though, but apparently the online profile list wasn't fully downloaded and needed to be put back in the program manually.

for future reference, if you hold control when selecting "Refresh Online List" it will redownload the whole thing.
