| | Posted: | | | | I am updating A Beautiful Mind UPC 025192-145025. I ticked the closed caption box and received several no votes saying that this feature is unavailable. I pulled out the DVD again and when I go to "Languages" this is what I see:
"Captions & Subtitles"
Captioned for the hearing Subtitles
English Espanol
None
So does this DVD have Closed Captions or not?
Edit: Please note that the English is directly under the section listed as Captioned and that Espanol and None are listed directly under Subtitles. Since special equipment is needed to read CC how are contributors to know if is available or not?

| | Posted: | | | | Closed Captioning is NOT an ordinary Subtitle. It takes a special decoder box, circuitry or software to see, It was created back in the 70's by the Closed Captioning Institue in Los Angeles and to utilize it the Distributor MUST pay a licensing fee to the CCI to use and dsiplay the Logo. Universal has never done this as you can readily tell by the lack of the logo., Kathy.
Simple procedure here, A Beautiful Mind was released YEARS ago,m like 2001 or 2002, do you really think if it had CC it would not have already been checked. instead we get users who check it and get it past the screeners and then it has to be fixed AGAIN and again and still and some more.

| | Posted: | | | | Easy to check. If "closed captioned" appears as a selectable option in your program (like PowerDVD or such) then it's there. However, it might also have a subtitle track for the hearing impaired. Again, easy to check in a program to see what subtitles are listed. | | Posted: | | | | There should be an icon that represents subtitles on your PowerDVD interface. If you click it, you'll get a menu that lists the available subtitles and closed captions. |

| | Posted: | | | | Kathy since it's always better with an image. If you use Power DVD it's easy to see if the subtitle track is in CC format or the SDH one. If the dvd had a CC option the line will be written in black in the zone I've circled. If not it will be grey like actually in the image  PS : My Power DVD is of course in french, but the english version certainly use the same order. |

The best way to see if a DVD has them, is to put it in your DVD player, hooked to your TV with a standard cable, and hit the CC button on your remote. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.

They include many of the same elemenents as Closed Captions, but are actually subtitles.

But knowing about the logo and using PowerDVD I should be okay for next time. Thanks again everybody for your help. |
