I'm auditing the Josie and the Pussycats complete collection. At the end of the episode it says:

"Created by John Goldwater and Richard Goldwater for the "Josie and the Pussycats" comic book originally designed by Dan DeCarlo"

So, does this mean John and Richard Goldwater get created by credits?  Or something else or nothing?

Thanks!

I'd probably go for OMB for all three -> since it says "created for the comic book"

I would go with 'Created by' as that is what the credit is.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.

I have a similar question, for Battlestar Galactica (the new series), where the credits say:

"Based on the series created by Glen A. Larson"

Would this be:
- created by?
- original material by

Personally, even though it contains "created by" in the title, I think the actual meaning is "original material by", seeing as it's a new series based on an older series that was created by him. Any thoughts?

"Created by" does not refer to the present production, so I would use OMB.

Not even OCB in the meaning of Original Creation By.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks. I'll vote accordingly on the submission.

I have to differ, Jubal and Unicus.  It does not say that the show was "created by" them -> it says that whatever is credited was "created by" them for the comic book.  That screams OMB.

May I ask - does this credit appear in every episode?  Or does this credit appear at the end of a single episode?

If it appears at the end of a single episode, it would appear that what is going on is that the episode borrows the plot of that episode from the comic book, the writing of which was likely credited to the Goldwaters.  John L. Goldwater was the founder of Archie Comics, and Richard was his son.  What Goldwater created was the Archie Comic; Josie was created by Dan DeCarlo.  None of them seem to have created the Josie show - that seems to be folks at Hanna-Barbera based on what I can find.

Yea, I may have to do a 180 here.  You can thank Taro for reminding me of the BSG example.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

After thinking about this, I am going to take a slight 90 degree turn, and say OCB.  This, and the BSG example in another thread, are not adaptations.  They take the original characters and place them in a completely new story.

Original Material By = Adapted from another medium.

Original Characters by = Used for screenplays based on characters from another work, credit the author of the characters here. For example comic adaptations and sequels.

So, OCB for the Goldwaters?  And DeCarlo as well?

I'm thinking OCB for the Goldwaters.  DeCarlo is a little harder, but his design is certainly part of what makes the characters so I'd be inclined to go that way for him too.

Actually, given original characters I'd have to agree.  Definitely DeCarlo as original characters - he created Josie & the Pussycats.  Since the Goldwaters were the creators of Archie, the setting and everything around which DeCarlo created Josie, I guess I'd given them OCB as well.
