Yesterday, I decided to check all my DVD's against my listing, as I wanted to see if I had any missing while I had gone on holiday (my son was in the house while I was away). On starting the check, there was quite a few discrepancies between my listing and physical DVD's - I had the DVD but there was no listing anywhere, either on my printed sheet on on my database. On doing an alphabetical search, the discs would appear in the database, but when I clicked off the filters, etc., the DVD still did not appear. So far this has happened on at least a dozen DVD's. Can anyone help with this? By the way, I do not have any DVD's missing (my son did not borrow any).

By any chance do you have your adult filters set?  Tools, Options, Parental Control...  Long shot maybe, but worth the look.

I have got all filters on default settings. I cannot understand why this has happened. The DVD's missing from the database I have started to re-insert, using their original collection numbers.

Have you tried database repair?  Backup your database if you haven't already, then go to options, utilites, repair, I believe.  That seems to fix most things for people.

Thanks, Lori. Unfortunately, that did not work. I may have to re-do may whole database, which I have been thinking of doing, as I am going to have a separate listing for my box sets/collections e.g. Stargate S.G.1

Sorry I couldn't help more...you could try to open a support ticket if you haven't already entered in the dvds.

Could you exlain that further? Where exactly did you do the "alphabetical search"? In the filters section or in the "Add by Title" dialog?

The DVD's were not appearing in the collection list. When I used the filters section to search for the DVD's, just using an alphabetical search, with all filters off, the DVD would appear.

For example, I've got Aliens (not part of a set - individual disc), which did not appear anywhere in my collection (it was number 11). My collection listed Aliens v. Predator (no. 10) then All The King's Men (no. 12). It was only when I did an alphabetical search that the DVD appeared.

I have since deleted the disc from the collection and re-inserted back to the collection, under the original number, where it now appears in  its rightful place.

As I previously stated, this is not the only example.

If you find it by text search, it's most likely there, just not where you are looking.

1) Make an alphanumerical search and open the title for editing (double-click on the list). Check its sort title.

2) If it's not 1) then it could be that the titles ar epart of a box set, indicated by a small [+] at the front of the line. Check your box sets whether your missing titles are in a box set.

When you disabled all your filters, are the numbers for "Total DVDs" and "Filtered" identical?

Thanks for your help, Karsten. I have tried everything that has been suggested, to no avail. As I stated the Aliens DVD was a stand alone copy. On checking through my collection, I have found another copy of Aliens, this time part of a digibox set, the disc has the same ID as my single disc. However, this does not account for other DVD's that have gone astray.

I noticed the error because I printed out a simple alphabetical listing, so that I could go into the room where I keep my DVD's, and not have too much paper to carry and check.

Could it be that somehow the Sort Title for your Aliens stand-alone copy got messed up? Try opening the profile in question and go to the Edit Profile screen. What does it say in Sort Title?

Could something similar have happened to your other "missing" DVD's?

Thanks everyone for all your help. I am now in the process of re-doing all of my collection, which shouldn't take too long. One thing that did spring to mind, completely unrelated to DVDP, is that a couple of years I was working on the PC, indexing some items, when a similar thing happened. what occured is that somehow or other, a blank space got inserted before the first word, and that caused the particular items to be indexed at the end of the listing.
