They are using Foxconn or MSI mainboards for gaming machines. That's like giving your old Pinto a racing outfit to make it feel faster.
I don't know how it is in the US but here these two manufacturers are mostly available in the low to medium-budget sector. At least the CPUs are about two generations behind (E5200!) the least you should take for a gaming machine is an E-8400 (stepping E0), since not many games support MPUs I would not recommend a QuadCore CPU, but this is strongly depending on what else you're planning to do with this machine. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

I suppose the fundamental question is "What is your budget?". i.e. what are you comfortable with paying/resigned to paying/can justify to She-who-must-be-obeyed  etc. etc. And is that budget for a complete package (monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers etc.), or can you salvage older peripherals? | | Posted: | | | | Look at putting in 2-4 GB of RAM, no more than 4 MB if you're on a 32bit system. Pick out a good video card and then put the rest into a CPU and MB. You can put together a decent gaming system for a grand if you're only upgrading those three items.
But if you're going for gaming, you'll want to put in for a good video card. Most modern games do the vast majority of the screen rendering on the video card and not in the CPU. |
