Could I have some advice, please, on how (or even whether) I should consolidate the entries in the database for these two (father and son) actors, please?

Some entries are patently wrong (Lloyd as middle name), but should they be corrected as hypenate or not (and where the entry is then wrong, do I add a "Credited as..." flag?)

These names may not mean much to American Profilers, but here in the UK the son (Roger) is well-known from a very popular sitcom ("Only Fools and Horses"), and his father was a stalwart character actor during the 60s and 70s, so both have quite a few credits.

You need to use the CLT to establish whether or not the common name is hyphenated or not. It's entirely possible that one might be and the other isn't.

The latest attempt at settling this one can be found right here. I'm using Charles//Lloyd Pack and Roger//Lloyd Pack - the first of which is fully supported by the CLT results, even when taking them on face value (which we really shouldn't ever do). Roger's CLT results are still a bit more affected by the fact that IMDb erroneously used to have the hyphenated variant as his common name: lots of these entries in our database are wrong. The variant without the hyphen already has more profiles, so it's catching up, but the CLT does still report more alledged "titles" with the hyphen. But again: it's getting there. If you were to dissect all that data and weed out the ones that were wrongly entered, then I'm absolutely sure that the actual common name is Roger Lloyd Pack as well.

Seems to have fizzled out without any remedial action, doesn't it?

I know someone who knows Roger Lloyd Pack, and might be able to get a message to him, asking whether his (and his father's name) should be hyphenated or not, if that would be an acceptable solution?

I have a trade publication from 1979, where Charles Lloyd Pack has taken out an advert, which presumably he'd have seen and approved before it was published - and that's hyphen-free!

Unfortunately not in this case. For DVDP purposes, what we're interested in is the most credited name is not what the actual name is.

Judging from that old poll, I really wouldn't think that is necessary - the community already seemed pretty convinced that "Lloyd Pack" is indeed the last name. So I'd consider the parsing issue settled already. The one thing you may have trouble with, as I pointed out before, is that the CLT still (wrongly) shows more "titles" for Roger Lloyd-Pack than for Roger Lloyd Pack. You could either start a "common name finding"-thread to prove those numbers are wrong, or you could simply wait until enough IMDb-mined profiles get fixed to sway the numbers to the actual common name.

Well, it does make a modicum of sense.  The goal is to use as the common name the one that is most often credited, so that we have as few "credited as" as possible.  Whether or not that matches the "actual" name is rather beside the point.  Considering the rate at which some people change their names and use pseudonyms, landing on an "actual" name is pretty difficult if not impossible altogether.  So this is the next best thing.
