I brought this thinking it was the remake. I found this to be an awesome movie. The plot is the same as the remake but the story a little different.

It's John Carpenters's first real film, his second if you count Dark Star which started as a student film. It's a genre classic.

Also, it's basically a remake of a western, going by memory here, Howard Hawks' Rio Bravo. John Carpenter practically remade it again in Mars-setting with John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. heck, even his Pro-Life for masters of Horror was the same basic plot. Seems he really likes the idea.

Glad to see you enjoyed it, it's a great film and I am considering upgrading to Blu-ray myself.

I started watching it and was like this isn't what I wanted. Then the more it played the better it got. I was glad I got it.

I ordered the remake on DVD for $5 will have it tomorrow.

The Blu-ray of the original 1978 movie released by Image Entertainment? Strange, it lists A-B-C (all regions) on its back cover.

I love the original, and would highly recommend the Blu-ray which is solid all around. I also enjoyed the remake, and thankfully it wasn't simply a direct clone of the original.

Oh, and if anyone wants the Special Edition 2003 DVD of the original (with the original coverart) and includes ALL of the special features, I'll sell it for $3 shipped within the United States. It was part of a box set, so includes no UPC code. Mint condition however.

I brought Assault on Precinct 13 (Widescreen Edition) (2005) for $5.49 on Amazon. With my prime membership free shipping. I also replace Independence Day (5 stars collection) edition for another $5 the movie was $2.50 plus shipping.

That movie so scratched won't play any more.

The remake isn't as good as I remember. The 1976 version is much better the story flows better.

well, yes - but isn't that true of most hollywood remakes?

The list of remakes that should have been strangled at birth would include -

Day of the Jackal (the original) - I can't even remmeber the name of the remake
Pyscho - where the remake even had the same dialog / film angles etc.

no doubt there are loads of others that could be included.

And I can recommend 'Dark Star' if you haven't seen that yet..
