Forgive me if this leads to an obvious answer which I have not as yet discovered. Living in Blighty, our Region 2 DVD's are issued some time after those of you, blessed to live in a Region 1 world, have had access to them. As a result, I have often noticed that whilst a Region 2 DVD has not been 'contributed', the Region 1 version has.
Attempting a shortcut, I recently took a Canadian post of the Rolling Stones 'Shine A Light' and edited it (changed the region, changed to PAL, new cover scan etc) and submitted it as a Region 2 post - and mentioned I'd done so in the comments box. It was rejected because the EAN on the cover scan didnt match the EAN on the original (Canadian) post. Fair enough, and I've now been advised how to change the EAN so have done so and resubmitted.
However, stikes me that at the end of the day, the movie has has the same actors, crew, overview etc etc (it's the same movie) what's the point in making us who live in a Region 2 world have to start from scratch to contribute when someone has probably done most of the hard work of data entry (albeit with an odd bit of dodgy 'new world' spelling) already?
So the question is, does my action above 'replace' the Canadian contribution or 'join' it if I go this route? | | | | Gonna jump...gonna jump... |

The cast and Crew listing may NOT be the same across Regions and version, but then again they might. So what I would do is simply cross check the data that I am cloning against the REAL film data to verify the accuracy and note it in the Contributions, especially if there is any variations.

| | Posted: | | | | If you change the UPC/EAN and locality it will not replace the Canadian profile at all, it will become a new Profile in it's own right, some data will no doubt be unique to the region, lik,e the region/Locality data and the UPC, but there may be Feature differences, Cast/Crwe listing differences, language, Video, Audio, Overview, virtually every aspect of the two Regions could be totally different.But yours will not replace the canadian as long as it is done properly.

The region 2 DVD as a whole however is (in my experience), more often than not, different in various ways to the region 1 DVD. Languages, subtitles, overviews, ratings, covers are nearly almost different.
I often find it easier to start from scratch and only use cast/crew data from existing profiles. That way the risk of accidentally leaving incorrect data (for region 2) in the new profile is eliminated.

Cloning Profiles

When you encounter a UPC/EAN that's not already in the database, it's a good idea to check if it exists in another locality and/or region. If it does, you can base your new profile on the existing one. This is sometimes referred to as "cloning" an existing profile.
The following are instructions and guidelines to help you do that:
1. First add the version from another region and/or locality to your database. (DVD -> Add to Collection -> Add by Title)
2. Then go to DVD -> Change UPC and change it to the correct UPC or EAN
3. Finally, change any details that are not the same between the profiles. See below for a checklist.
When contributing to the main database, note exactly what you did and that you did in fact verify the information on the actual discs that you own.
A basic checklist:
UPC/EAN: without changing this first, all changes you make are to the original profile
LOCALITY: change to match new locality by accessing the top menu: DVD -> Change Locality
REGION: if necessary, make sure to change it to the new region
RATING: if your locality has different ratings than the release you're changing
RUNNING TIME: may be different
EDITION: will probably be different
RELEASE DATE: your release may or may not be different
SRP: make sure currency matches locality (SRP is the "suggested" price on release day)
CASE/SLIP: may be different
STUDIOS: sometimes in different geographical areas the studios (or distributing studio) may be different
VIDEO: may need to change from NTSC to PAL or SECAM or vice versa (watch out for differences in aspect ratio as well)
AUDIO: audio & subs will probably be different too
OVERVIEW: may be different, even in releases from countries with the same language (watch your spelling!)
DISCID: will definitely be different
COVERS: will definitely be different
FEATURES: will most likely be different
SUBTITLES: will most likely be different
EASTER EGGS: will most likely be different
MEDIA TYPE: if you've changed a DVD to Blu-ray or HD DVD (or vice versa) you'll need to change the media type.
