| | Posted: | | | | So, I got an order today with a floater. Of course it has several scratches. My question is, has anyone noticed scratches getting worse? What's the long term results of scratches...should I replace it anyway, even though it works? If it was an in store purchase, it'd already be going back, but for me, the hassle and cost of returning it through the mail is worth a couple of scratches if the disc plays.
But I am curious if anyone has noticed scratches affecting discs more than the original damage. | | | | Lori |

| | Posted: | | | | The quality of the disc plays a large factor. If its foil is applied to the outside of the plastic, any scratch to the label side will have negative results concerning playback.

But the player now days are good at avoiding problems from scratches. To the question raised I dont think the scratches themselves can get worse, BUT I think they can attract some dirt and that would worsen the readability... need for cleaning. You know that scratches can easy be removed? polished or rubbed avay by grinding the discs down a litle? Back in LD days there where firms that did that kind of services, today at CD size we can do that easy our selves. But I am curious if anyone has noticed scratches affecting discs more than the original damage. i usually take them back to the store. i have not had any scratched so bad they don't play, but if i spend usually about $16 for a NEW DVD i want a New DVD! if i bought a dvd at big lots for $3 and it's scratched but plays, i'll just keep it.  |
