I have a problem with 2 different Boxsets, Action Double Feature: Demolition Man and Over the Top UPC 012569815155 include the same disc ids as 4 Film Favorites: Sylvester Stallone Collection UPC 085391174219. I know that I can't have 2 different contributions with the same disc id but why can't I assign the Demolition Man child to both boxsets, should I just get rid of one of the boxsets? I have the same problem with Superman boxsets I only have one of them but I can't contribute the children for the Superman boxset I have because another Superman boxset has already the same children disc ids.  What can I do?

It sounds to me like you are basically describing re-releases, while I don't tread in that water very much, so I am not 100% certain, I don't believe you will be able to Contribute your re-release data sinec the DiscIDs are already assigned to the Original release sets. but I am not certain of that.

Yes, they would be re-releases.  But I think the problem is that he has two box sets that have some of the same films and he can't add the children to each box set, because the program would tell him he 'already owns' the disc.

Basically, I think it's like this:

Box Set A
-- Child I
-- Child II

Box Set B
-- Child I
-- Child II
-- Child III
-- Child IV

With Child I & Child II having the same Disc ID.  So he can't add Child I & Child II to each box, because the program can only allow the profile once in his database.

Now, as I understand it, in the online both Box Set A & Box Set B can have Child I & Child II assigned to them, because the profiles are separate.  The child profiles are not exclusive to a single box set, majdad just can't add them to Box Set B because he already has them in Box Set A.

I don't know how to fix it, but I think I understand the problem.

That's the way I understood the problem as well...and darned if I know how to fix it.  Amazingly, I haven't run into this yet.

Simple solution: get rid of the children of one box set.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

You could "cheat" a bit and use the version with UPC for one set. Just lock them of and chage what's needed. You just can contribute those (obviously) and it's not really perfect/accurately but it get's the result you want.

Another "cheating" option would be to change the locality of the discs. Just make sure to keep them local after this.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Randy

For contribution purposes you detach the cild profiles from parent A, add them to parent B and contribute parent B and it's childs.

- when you are done, you flag the profiles and make a backup only of the flagged profiles.
- then you go into your folder where your cover images are (usually under <my files>\DVD Profiler\Default\Images) and look for the manual profile with the highest number (manual profiles start with "M" in the file name)
- now you select the profile you have twice and go to change UPC
- there you enter a new UPC with the name "M" and the next free number
- when you are done with that, you restore the backup but with the option to restore only selected profiles
- now you have two copies of the profile and you can assign them to their parents.

Thanks for everybodys help, I tried DJ Doena sugestion about manual profiles and it worked great Thanks again. I did find problems with the United States and Canada versions of Action Double Feature: Demolition Man and Over the Top so I made some changes and contributed them just to clean up the database a little.

Thanks,
Randy
