Hi,

I doing full audit for Rides: The Complete Second Season. On one episode there is a DVD mastering error. The actual episode ends after end credits at 52:02, but after that you see nothing but black till 1:22:55. My DVD player also gives 1:22:55 as an episode lenght.

Which one is the correct time to contribute? Common sence says 52:02, but everything around here sometimes doesn't revolve around common sence. Any opinions?

My personal opinion is that we go by common sense here. If there is only black on screen and no soundtrack, after the end credits have finished, I consider that part being well and truly outside the episode.

I would put the episode length as 52 mins.

Did someone actually watch (or FF) to see if there is really no program material between 52:02 and 1:22:55?

I remember a rock and roll CD that had a long period of dead space after the last listed track -- and then a bonus, "hidden" track which was full length (4+minutes).

All kidding aside, I would go with the 52:02 time since it makes sense to do it that way.

20 minutes of black, are you sure weren't watching the Sopranos Finale. Weird. 52 seems right to me, but i would thouroughly document it. Have you checked with any other tools such as DVDDecrypter.

While I agree with everyone else that 52 minutes is the correct running time, please be sure to document both times and the reason for using 52 minutes in the contribution notes.

If another contributor were to stick the disc in their computer and use a software tool like DVDInfo to determine run time, they would get the longer time, and without contradictory notes they might assume that to be the correct time.

(edit: I see Skip is saying the same thing)

Is there a commentary track? I've seen this done where participants didn't stop talking when the credits were over.
