Yup, another, actually a couple credit questions.  Sorry.  Thanks for all opinions in advance.

I picked up a DVD that the UPC is not in the database, so in cases like this I add cast & crew.  However consulting the crew table doesn't seem to cover these ...

Writing credits, in this order in the film:
Based on the Life of => ? ... OMB? or should not be listed?
Story by => obvious
Adapted by =>  ? ... or should not be listed?
Screenplay by => obvious

The only sound credit:
Recording Director => ? ... should not be listed?

Special Effects => Visual Effects
Montages By => ? ... also Visual Effects?  or should not be listed?

I think all your 'or should not be listed's' are correct.  The only one that I might enter is the 'adapted by' credit.  Odds are the screenplay is based on the adaptation of the story, so I might go with OMB for that one.

In my opinion:

Adapted by =>  OMB
Recording Director => Sound
Special Effects => Visual Effects

I would not record "Montages by". It's closer to an editing credit than anything, yet I wouldn't credit it there either.

Adapted by is definitely not OMB. I would go with story if there's a screenwriter credit, otherwise screenwriter.

Based on the Life of => ? ... OMB? or should not be listed? NO
Story by => obvious YES
Adapted by =>  ? ... or should not be listed? NO
Screenplay by => obvious YES

The only sound credit:
Recording Director => ? ... should not be listed? NO

Special Effects => Visual Effects YES
Montages By => ? ... also Visual Effects?  or should not be listed? NO

In my opinion any of the NO entries above are not within the rules and should be kept locally only. I am now erring on the side of caution and keeping things I am unsure of locally.

There is a story credit and a screenwriter credit.  How can it also be 'story'?

No matter the answer, it can't be story by as 'adapted by' is not in the list of acceptable credits for 'story by'.  The only entry that it could be is OMB.  If it doesn't fit there, it can't be entered.

There are a number of schools of thought on adaptations, but if they are to be entered, then they only fit as OMB.  Personally I've grown tired of dealing with it, so I use the custom entry and list them straight up as adaptation.  I get what I want and the online isn't polluted with my heretical ideas.

Thanks everybody.  Decided to go with the safe route and leave off all the ones I - and the majority of you - weren't sure of or thought shouldn't go at all.

Have to agree about the adapted by not really fitting in story, since there's a story credit.  I'm not sure it should be OMB, since it seems that should fit 'based on the life of' if anything did in these credits.

Well, looking at it from the perspective that we are going to include it, OMB is the only thing that works.  The role simply says original material by, there is no limitation as to it being the sole source for the movie.  This being the case, somebody's life story can be an OMB, and any adaptation of this can also be an OMB.  The actual nitty gritty writing is captured in the writer/screenwriter portions, OMB just captures the rest of the influences on the final written product.

Impatiently waiting for the rule change which allows us to enter 'Based on the Life of' as OMB.
