I agree that for Sir Ian McKellen, you can use the credited as feature. Not sure about Professor Toru Tanaka, as it's a pseudonym and not his real name ...

A recent contribution had Mr. and Miss before all the actors' names. This was accepted by the screeners (with the Credited As feature). I did not copy this to my local, so I forget which DVD.

We do accept Dr. and military titles, and a title Sir would be okay as it becomes more or less part of the name. Professor is a job title, and we don't usually copy those.

I remember some earlier discussion of a similar issue where people were credited with their military rank. Conclusion back then, as I recall, was that they should be entered (using "Credited as" only if their common name doesn't have the military rank).

If the word 'Professor' is included in the credit, we include it.  There is nothing in the rules that tells us to leave it out.

I agree with Unicus... we do not leave anything out... as credited on the screen is what we use (at least in the as credited field).

If they are alwasy credited with the title, there is not need for the 'Credited as' function.  That is only needed if they are sometimes credited without it.  In those cases, we would go by the CLT.

Not sure if it's right, but I have 5 titles with Professor Toru Tanaka in them.
It's Professor Toru / Tanaka but should probably all be in first field as it's a stage name I'm pretty sure.
Just tried submitting all of them in case I did my own linking, but all are approved (no changes).
Professor also wins the CLU results 49/184 to 19/90.

I would use credited as for Ian, which I'm sure is far more common than Sir Ian.
