i only want my Criterion Collection DVDs numbered, since they actually are numbered on the spine.  at some point i reassigned numbers to the whole collection and now they are mixed in with the Criterion DVDs.  isn't there a way to remove the numbers completely WITHOUT reassigning them?  i really don't want to have to 'personalize' 800 DVDs and check "None" under Collection Number.  thanks

Unfortunately, I don't believe there's an easy way to remove all collection numbers.

hmmm Hal is right.., Maybe uncheck the criterion numbers,, keep the rest 'as is' and then find and remove the numbers from criterion jackets and then remove those numbers from your library, since criterion is already numbered...

Another possibility is to manually renumber your Criterion's with 10XXX, where XXX equals the spine number.  Then renumber the rest of your collection, eliminating gaps.

originally, i did just that:  put all non-criterions at 10xx and above.  somehow, i renumbered starting at 500.  criterion is up to 475 (and counting), so in about 3 months it will be a problem.  this whole thing started by not being able to sort by number ascending without having the DVDs marked 'NONE" go BEHIND the #s, not in front.  the only way to have the Criterions show first was to have it sort by number Descending.  seems strange that there wouldn't be a simple way to remove all numbers and start over (or for that matter choose non-numbered DVDs to show AFTER the ones that are numbered.  I guess I will just have to manually check 'NONE' on about 800 DVDs.

I was gonna suggest BulkEdit, but when testing your scenario, I found that my code was incomplete. If you can wait a day or two, I plan to fix it, assuming you don't mind using a plugin. I will certainly fix it regardless, but if you need it urgently, I would try to do it sooner.

Edit: Well I jumped the gun again as usual, and made a quick change to BulkEdit, just to add an option under Collection->Flagged to "Set Collection Number To None". Actually, I set the field to a null string - the "None" box is not checked. If this can help you, get it here, but if you prefer not to, its OK. By the way, would it make a difference to you to have the box checked "None" or not?
Thanks for your support.

MDog,

Thanks for jumping in here.  I tried your plugin and it worked very quickly and effortlessly, with one caveat.  Right now, the next # in my Criterion Collection that I am missing is #123.  So everytime I open a profile to edit, since it's not set to NONE, if i don't click NONE, it will drop #123 on it and mix it in with the Criterions.  To be honest, this is a very minor deal, as I (hopefully) won't be editing them much and will remember to check that box if I do go in there.  Were you asking about setting to NONE because it's an option that can be added?  Because that would be ideal.  I'm still grateful for getting me this far.

Super! Yeah, I was interested in your feedback. Best way to get it right is to ask somebody that needs the result. So thanks for testing the early version. I'll do some more work on it before releasing to the public.

Edit: Couldn't find a way to set the checkbox. But I fixed the datagrid bug, and added the menu to Collection/Flagged in BulkEdit V1.19. So now you can blank out the collection number when you are in edit mode, including using the MultiCopy tool.
