While updating a TV series I came across the designation "Lighting Cameraman". The episode credits don't list a DoP or Cinematographer so would this be accepted by the rules?

I personally would say no.

This is what Wikipedia has to say.

Quote:
The English system of camera department hierarchy sometimes firmly separates the duties of the director of photography from that of the camera operator to the point that the DP often has no say whatsoever over more purely operating-based visual elements such as framing. In this case, the DP is often credited as a lighting cameraman. This system means that the director consults the lighting cameraman for lighting and filtration and the operator for framing and lens choices.

Because of the part I bolded, and the rules, I would say 'yes'.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I don't see 'Lighting Cameraman' in the crew table!

Am I missing something?

That, coupled with the fact that there's no other cinematography credit, would cause me to say 'yes', too.

I think they're taking "Lighting & Photography by" to mean the same thing.

Just a friendly reminder:

For each category, include only those people credited with the roles listed in the "Role" and "Credited As" columns. If someone is not credited with one of these roles (or direct translations of these roles), do not include them in the Crew section.

Bold by me.  And before someone makes the argument, "direct translation" and "interpretation" are not synonymous.

So if  "Lighting Cameraman" is as close to "Lighting & Photography by" as we can get would the person in question be the DoP or the Cinematographer ?

Since the exception is in the Cinematographer section, I would use that.

AFAIK Lighting Cameraman could be an english traslation for american DoP.

Except, looking at the Wikipedia article that I linked, although it's a similar role, it's not the same due to reduced responsibilities.

Since the show in question is English I am leaning more towards DoP but will use the Cinematographer credit as suggested, any thoughts?
