I just made a contribution for Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume Three adding cast and crew for each short with dividers.

To my surprise I got a no vote with the following reason: "Hate to be a spoil sport, but these are theatrical shorts and should be a boxset with child profiles."

Is the voter correct? Should it be a boxset (There are currently no child profiles in the DB) or could it be treated with optional child profiles?

And if this should be a box set, then the Walt Disney Treasure cartoon sets should also be box sets?

Any thought or comments?

Each one is a fold-out custom case with a slip cover.  Each disc contains a collection of shorts or cartoons.  Not every short was theatrical.

Well, technically every short was theatrical because the only content that counts is the actual cartoons.  Anything else is a featurette.

That being said, I can go either way with this.  While I would probably attempt the child thing personally, I can see where folks might try to do a TV thing where the info gets repeated across both parent and child profiles.

Ace_of_Sevens stated in the contribution votes that each short doesn't have it's own disc so it doesn't exactly fit the box-set definition.

Yeah, like I said I can go either way with this.  The two-disk chronological Stooges sets are done as strictly box affairs, with each disc containing maybe a dozen shorts separated by dividers.  The parent is basically blank.  It just depends on what your point of reference is.

Oh please, you aren't serious, doc.

Fits the definition of either boxset or TV series.

I would treat it like a TV box set.

Personally, I'd like it to be a box set.  I even remember checking for children every so often for them.  But that's my own personal preference.  Note that one of the profiles IS a box set with children.

I've seen the Walt Disney Treasures and Pixar shorts done the same way with dividers, they were all approved and I see nothing wrong with it.

I was the one who voted no since these were theatrical shorts and then later shown on TV, just like the Three Stooges were. What I would recomend the user to do is to spilt it up with the child profiles, this way all the hard work doesn't go to waste.

It's not a TV series, since the vast majority of these shorts are theatrical shorts; just because they happened to be collected into programs for Saturday morning airing later on doesn't make them TV shows.  Same thing for the Stooges.

I think it does fit into the box set rules as they're written--it's any release containing more than one film.  The three classes listed are examples and don't seem to be limiting or defining what constitutes a box set.

OTOH, I am not sure what's to be gained here since I doubt anyone's going to bother to profile each of the cartoons (the first 4 volumes of the latest Stooges set do have proper child profiles with cast and crew for each short) because that's a lot of effort basically for listing Mel Blanc (voice) over and over again.  But if you want to profile 'em all, then live it up.  I won't vote no.

I know they were Theatrically released, gar, some of them YEARS before TV, which is why i tend to go with the Boxset concept. And as has been noted there are already a number of similar profiles already in the database. But I can see the TV STYLE argument, not because they were shown on TV that is irrelevant, but because they are set-up on the disc in similar fashion to a TV series. But I tend to go with the boxset concept.

All of the reasons we don't treat TV series the same as box sets apply here. Besides, the rules say a box set contains one movie per disc or side.

Ace brings up a good point.  The rules define a 'Box set' as any release that includes more than one film.  There is nothing about a 'theatrical release'.  The B5 film collection didn't have a theatrical release, yet we treat it as a box set, not a TV series set.  The same is true for the Alien Nation film collection.

These are shorts, not films.
