Let's assume a TV show season comes in slip cover (is that the right term?) that contains 3 slim cases.

And they happen to look like this:

What's the title of the first disc?

MacGyver: The Complete Fifth Season: Disc 1
MacGyver: The Fifth Season: Disc 1

I hate when things like that pop up. I guess I would say since you are profiling the disc the title should come from the case the actual disc is in. So I would go with MacGyver: The Fifth Season: Disc 1

I do a lot of TV child profiles and I always take the title from the disc box (and if there isn't one from the disc itself or a combination of disc/box).

After all it is the disc we are profiling in these cases.

So, for a digipak I would take the title from the outer box, eg. Deadwood: The Complete First Season, then I would look at the disc to determine if it should be Disc One or Disc 1.

But in the case of keep/THINKpak cases I always take from the case itself. Otherwise anyone viewing it will look at the cover scan and then the title and they won't match.

I agree with both Addicted & Pantheon, I would use the info on the disc box.

I agree with Addicted, Pantheon & Forget -- especially since "Complete" only appears on the slip cover, not the thinpaks.

The disc number sometime gets truncated in displays if the title is too long -- like if it includes "Complete" so I'm all in favor of shorter titles, where appropriate.

I agree with Addicted, Pantheon, Forget and kdh.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I would take it from the season box for consistency and to keep them sorted together (you know, in that Add DVD by Title dialog, where you're already unable to find JAG )

I admit that it is of less importance for child profiles IF they are properly linked to the parent and can be auto-downloaded. But that link seems not always to be there.

I use the title from the individual DVD and the boxset title for sorting purposes.

Nope, that would create a circular reference.
