I just bought a movie (Stub: The Best Cowdog in the West UPC: 786936748536, Disney exclusive) that was submitted by the disc id.  Not a problem, except that it has a UPC.  I'm planning on submitting it by UPC, but should I have the disc ID one removed?

The scans for the original profile does include the UPC, but for some reason was not submitted by it.  Contribution notes don't mention anything about why it was submitted that way.  I know nothing would be hurt by leaving it in the system, but it seems to be redunant to do so as the disc ID will be in the UPC Profile as well which would still allow people to use that to use disc ID for identification.

So, leave it or ask for it to be removed once I put the UPC version into the system?  Thanks!

I view UPC as our primary method of title entry, with Disc ID as secondary. So I would supoport a request to change it.

You should download the existing profile which uses the Disc ID, edit the profile locally to change the Disc ID to the UPC and submit that change.  It will correct the one in the main database.  You will be updating the existing profile rather than "removing" it.

Thanks, Hal.  That sounds great...didn't know that it would replace it...figured it would create an unique one.

Hal, I may be doing something wrong, but when I did that (downloaded the original file, changed UPC, then contributed it) it came up as a new profile...

Locally you have swapped a Disc ID-based profile for a UPC-based one.

When you submit it, it is now an on-line, unique UPC-based profile no longer related to the on-line Disc ID-based profile.

I think it would take a request to the Powers that Be to remove the Disc ID-based profile.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

You're absolutely correct.

I was having a brain-fart earlier, thinking it would update the existing Disc ID profile in the online database.

I've seen disc ID  and UPC titles hand in hand in profiler both with the same Local region ..
Perhaps as others here have said submit new contribution with same art scans but its own UPC code for the data base..

A lot of us try and locate DVD's by UPC and not necessarily the title only,,  as titles with one extra letter or apostraphe can put a damper on your search .
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

Submitted the profile by UPC and it's approved (very fast, too! ).  How does one submit a profile to be deleted?  The non-upc one, I mean.  I made sure that the disc id was included in the UPC profile, so people can still find it that way.

What you do is in the profile by Disc ID replace the Title by something like "Screeners please delete this profile", and then explain in your contribution notes why. (In this case something like: profile for this release already exists in the database by UPC).

One aspect of requesting screeners to delete a disc ID - based profile that would concern me though is that if someone had downloaded that particular profile (perhaps via a title search as opposed to UPC search), and that profile does get removed from the online db, doesn't that delection effectively break any existing linkage between the online and the local for that user?

I think it would in fact break that link. So what, you might say.... well, that would certainly prevent the cover scans from appearing in someone's online listing since there'd no longer be anything to tie the user's listed entry to an existing online db scan.

Yes it would, Mie, but the data should have been entered correctly to begin with don't you think. The mysterious user can easily update his collection .

At the moment, it's up for review so any user who has this title will be able to vote on it...and know that there is a change being done.  And since my notes are pretty clear, they know that there is another profile with the right info in the database they can download.
