If I have a profile update from the online DB, and I accept it, if a name change in case, or maybe in some other instances, that name is not changed in my db i.e.
My DB        -  Update db
Macdonald  -  MacDonald

If iI compare the profiles again after the update of my Db is still Macdonald.

If I want the change I have to manually edit the name to change it.

It seems to me that acceping an update should be enough.

Note my online db is out of date due to sync errors in trying to update it.
I read somewhere that Phoenix area has one of the worst internet response in the country.

This is because databases usually don't distinguish between the capitalization of letters (DVDProfiler is no exception here).
Means:
If you write MacDonald or macdonald or even MACDONALD doesn't make any difference for the database as such. It doesn't even recognize a change here.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

From my experience seeing the same thing, what I've always assumed is that the changes don't affect your local because the names are linked to more than a single profile through-out your entire database.

For example, if I don't have a BY for Morgan Freeman in any of my profiles, and a contribution comes through for Kiss the Girls that adds his BY to the profile, it will still be accepted and show in the online, but that one approved submission can't affect the other 18 profiles I have in my local for Morgan Freeman since it's a change to just the profile, and not the actor or crew member themselves. In my local, he's still just Morgan Freeman minus the BY, so that's the actor or crew profile that's displayed for all the profiles he's attached to.

Whenever I see a prasing or BY change in a profile, I make a note of it and update it (if I feel it's necessary for my local) after the contribution is accepted and downloaded. I think it's the only way to affect your entire local rather than just the single profile being updated.

Like I said, just what I've seen from my own experience.

And I hope that made sense!

Well, and then there's that!

I have known about all of that, and as a registered user since early 2000
and wrote a little software in my 60 years in the computer industry.

Just that's the way it is, don't mean its right or it even has to work that way.

What I want in my profiles is constancy and maybe if I'm lucky correctness.

If I was looking up a name that's one thing, I would like to see the options.
But I'm not looking up a name I'm requesting an update.

The DBISAM database engine does distinguish cases.  For actor names, this operates that way intentionally so that if a profile update comes down it won't automatically change the actor name case.

That IS the way it is, until such time as Ken makes the change, which might be the next version and may not be for 5 years. The way I handle it here is by use of the Common Name as necessary, For example if I have McDonald in my local but the credit says MCDONALD (Mcdonald in Profiler style)< I would simply McDonald with Mcdonald Credited As, that tells me what the screen data is.

And thank you for handling it this way. Now if you would only do the same thing for parsed names and not add another actor if the name is parsed differently. We could keep the three name fields. (More complicated I know).

I did not enter the original cast list in the profile or do the update.
If I had done the original cast list and saw a difference in the update, I would check it out
before I accepted the update.
I'm done over and out.
