i don't think i will find a reason why i bother to send in any contributions
i typed in all crew and cast but they are all declined
i keep from now on all things for myself and don't send in any things i find for the database
why you ask? because i type in everything i find and i spend much time and it will be decilned
so sorry that i don't send in any more updates for the database because if they dont want the stuff i type then it's ok by me
at least my database is correct and the whole crew and cast is in it and also much other stuff
even dvd that are not in the database and that i bought are declined

What sources do you use for the cast and crew?

Sorry to hear you wanting to give up. And hope you reconsider. There is a couple things that could be stopping your contributions.

Per the rules you can only use the actual beginning and ending credits of the actual show when you play the disc. This way the cast and crew is accurate to the actual disc you are profiling.

Another thing might be... are you adding any uncredited cast? if so You need to source where this info is coming from. please take not that a single 3rd party database is not allowed. So saying something like from imdb.com is not allowed you need multiple sources when using 3rd part databases. I normally only do uncredited if they are mentioned in the DVD extras. Like in a commentary or featurette or something like that.

Usually contributions get declined for insufficient documentation, or (but as you stated that cannot be the case with you) incorrect data.

So make sure to give the used sources for your contribution and be aware that the ultimate source for the standard data i(Crew, Cast, Overview, Cover) is the DVD itself, only for nonstandard information (uncredited cast, birthyears (please read the rules), crosslinks to common names) other sources are accepted. Please read the rules to find out what sources are valid
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Based on his post, it sounds like his contributions are getting declined because he is not using the film credits for his cast and crew data.

When entering the cast, you should only enter the cast from the DVD itself from the end credits if from a movie or opening/end credits if from a TV show.

You need to state that you entered the credits from the cast list from the DVD.

Only uncredited cast members can be entered via alternate sources.

If you don't follow this technique, your contribution will be denied every time.  There is a link on the contribution page for the rules, it would be a good idea to read them if you haven't already done so.

This is the reason your contributions are being declined.  Invelos only accepts cast and crew that are copied from the film credits.  No 3rd party sites are allowed...for copyright reasons.

That is what it sounds like to me too... if you don't have the actual disc in hand then you should contribute without cast and crew till you (or someone else) can do it from the actual credits on the disc itself.

You mention that you are trying to make sure it is correct.  That is a great idea, but our rules require that the cast and crew be entered as credited, that would include any mistakes or misspellings that the credits may have.  If you are 'fixing' this sort of thing, that could be why it is getting declined.

If you wish to contribute, you must follow the rules.  If you really want to contribute, do it by the rules then lock the title and make your updates/fixes on your local database.  That way you get the best of both worlds.

We all understand your frustration, but don't give up yet!

On the couple that I spot checked, you either did not list out your source or you listed IMDB as your source. As others have pointed out here, you must take the cast and crew credits directly from the DVD itself.  It looks to me that the declines are in line with our contribution rules. The contribution guidelines are available on the site and through a link in the program. Also feel free to ask specific questions here in the forums. There are many seasoned contributors in these forums who know the rules and are happy to help.

In addition to what Gerri has stated (listen to her, she's an Admin here), listing IMDB has the sole source will always result in a denied contribution.

The only times I've seen IMDB accepted as a source is when adding uncredited cast members or common name/BY changes and that's ALWAYS with other additional sources.

IMDB (or any other external source) used alone will never work.

Gerri,
I don't know if it's possible or not, but it would be very helpful in situations like this, if it was still possible to see the contribution after evaluation, even if just for a few days, in a non-voting format - so we can see what the user was changing and what notes they added. It would also be very helpful if we could see screens like this even for DVDs not in our online collection, again in a non-voting format.

That does seem like it would be helpful. Not sure of the effort, but I will talk with Ken about it.
