The rating system have only two option now: Film & Television but for the animation we could use a OVA (straight to video release). Since many anime can actually be neither film or television.

It's not just Anime that does this.  I think the only difference is rather then just calling it "Direct to Video" Anime uses the terms OVA or OAV.  99% of the time anything released with out a TV I would leave as film.

I have to agree with tkinnen in this, an OVA (Original Video Animation) should be considered as a film in so far a ratings are concerned.

100% agreed.

And while we're at it, we should also include the CERO age restriction system used in Japan. I think now only the age restriction systems of the western hemisphere (PG13 for example) are available.

I thought that this topic might actually be about the ratings themselves, since anime titles (in the US, at least) don't usually follow the regular MPAA ratings system.  Things such 13+, 15, 16, 18&Up -- there are many ratings on these covers that can't be entered into profiler.

As for the ratings setting (Film/Television), I've suggested in the Feature Requests forum that this setting could be used for a few things, such as Live Performance or Short Programs -- in other words, a Type of Media slot, rather than strictly a ratings slot.

If you have the information on another rating system, you could post it  here in the rating system thread for inclusion in the updates.
However, do note that for the profiles we only use the rating given for the DVD's release locality, not the rating from the COO. (currently the options shown for Japan in profiler are G/PG-12/R-15/R-18)

Fortunately for the past 2-3 years the US studios do tend to be labeling them with the standard TV Broadcast rating system... so clearly that should be used when given - though it confuses things a bit as they apply it to all types: TV, Movies and direct video.  If NR, IMO it doesn't really matter much as Profiler doesn't seem to make a distinction at this time between the two NRs, and direct-to-video sits squarely between the two systems being neither broadcast nor theatrical type.
Anyway, using the rating system to identify the release venue seems unwise, because of the studios aforementioned use of the TV system as a catch-all for otherwise unrated material (in the release locality.)

The custom rating systems developed by some studios can't really be entered properly either - unless we want to get into that joy filled area of "functional equivalent".    (e.g. the "3/7/13/16/18 Up" system created by Pioneer and later used by others, which late in their game also had a semi-standard logo. However, it was also applied to all media they wanted to rate that had no other existing stamp, TV/Video/Movies, so it's not specifically another category, such as direct video, that's exclusive of the others.)  At least the age group is explicitly given, which is what Profiler seems to really want in defining ratings - i.e. for filtering & parental controls.

I like very much... but instead of within the Ratings, maybe a new list item such as Release Type/Venue or somesuch that has TV/Theatrical/Direct Video/Live Performance/etc? With that feature it could also allow the scrapping of Television as a genre.
This is probably a discussion for Feature Requests tho...
