Someone contributed an update for The Outer Limits: Sex & Science Fiction Collection And is removing the episode numbering from the dividers in cast and crew...his reasoning is (from his contribution notes)...

Quote:
I removed the dividers numbers due to none of the episodes are numbered and this is a theme set and not from a single season.  The preivous 4 have been approved without numbers.

First of all just because the others went through don't mean this is per rules.

And because of my no vote this person PMed me claiming this is a grey area because it is a best of release. and they are not numbered on the release.

I just pmed back with...

From the rules...
Quote:
Complete Series/Season & Anthologies of Episodes:

Enter Cast and Crew for each episode using standard rules, and insert dividers to separate each episode's credit list from the others. Do not list Cast and Crew outside of the dividers even if they are credited in all episodes.

Enter the episode number and title in the divider that marks the beginning of that episode's credit list. The divider should be formatted as "1. Episode Title", or "Episode 1" if no title is available.

Take the episode title from the episode itself, or from elsewhere on the DVD or DVD packaging, exactly as shown. If all episode titles are entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead. If the episodes are listed with quotes around each title, exclude the quotes.

If the DVD or DVD packaging specifically numbers the episodes, use that number in the divider. Otherwise, episodes are to be numbered sequentially in the order that they appear on the DVD(s) in the set, with the number sequence carrying over from disc to disc. Do not number non-episodic features such as movies or alternate cuts unless they are given specific numbers on the DVD or DVD packaging.

Notice all the parts I put in bold... especially the part I put in red. It don't matter if it is a best of disc (covered by anthology of episodes)... per rules the dividers must be numbered.

So I do not see this as a grey area at all. I even remember when we wrote this portion of the rules. We used the term "anthology of episodes" do to the fact that it covers both vol. releases (single disc episodes in order) and best of releases (releases with episodes from throughout the series no matter the order or season).

I am bringing this here in hopes that I can get this corrected so I don't have to fix his error if it does go through.

I would agree with what you've said. The rules are quite clear about numbering them regardless of it being a complete/partial series/season.

I especially like them numbered (apart from sticking to the rules) since I use Goodguy's Crew+ and Cast+.

But sometimes rules are ignored. I got a No vote for repairing a TV-series profile where part of the cast and crew was listed before the first episodes, and other parts where used with dividers. The rules explicitly say not to do that.

That could just be something that was just never fixed... as before the current rule that was the way it was supposed to be done. until we found out there was too many variables that could effect it so it was changed to all cast between dividers.

But yeah... I know sometimes the bad (against rules) info does get in. That is why I am trying so hard to keep this one right as I really don't want to have to fix this person's mistake if it does go through.

I understand how this happened in the past. What bugs me is that someone is trying to prevent me from fixing this. PM is ignored.

Edit your contribution notes to address this no-vote, preferably including the applicable quote from the rules. If he's only voter and you don't address this in your notes, he may actually succeed in get it declined. But specifically addressing the screeners in the notes to explain why the no-vote is wrong really helps.

I would edit the contribution notes as well.... quoting that portion of the rules. Hopefully it will help.

I had this same discussion with the same contributor on the earlier contributions.

He was clearly not going to change his mind and told me that if I wanted to add the episode numbers he would vote yes on them.

I just dropped it.

I just looked and he has read the PM (or at least opened it) but no reply yet at least. I also left a link to this thread. Hopefully he will at least reply to my PM or here.

Well... I just looked at All Pending Updates... it is no longer there... so looks like he withdrew the contribution. I am hoping that he fixes and recontributes because he did add and fix some stuff as well. But will have to wait and see about that.

I actually changed my vote from "no" to "neutral", because he was adding significant good data to the profile.

I personally don't believe in doing that. As long as something is wrong and/or against the rules I feel I need to vote no to show for this.

I realize that Ken has said that they approve by significant value but he also said that voting no on these is also correct.

The Invelos evaluators' standing policy is to accept profiles that add significant value.  They do not have to be complete, nor even completely accurate.  If you're submitting 50 painstakingly correct cast entries but get the production year wrong, the profile should be accepted and corrected later.

"No" votes are equally valid in this case, however.  They allow the contributor a chance to correct their submission if they choose, and save someone the effort of the correction later on.

I've sent out a notes reiterating this policy to the evaluators.

As you can see in the part I put in bold.

I did initially vote "no" and had a PM conversation with the contributor.

When it became evident that he was not going to change his mind, I decided to change my vote to "neutral" so that the other changes would make it into the on-line database.

I understand where you're coming from, and normally would do the same as you.  This was kind of a one-off.

I strongly agree.  It is much more efficient for a contributor to withdraw, correct and resubmit than for another to have to do so and go throught a separate voting process.

It would be helpful if the rules allowed appending an indicator of the Season and Episode numbers for anthology or other non-standard releases--perhaps something like:

1. The Shaming of the True (S3E9)

I personally would be against that. Just a numbered list. I wouldn't want to open it up to let people start appending something to the episode dividers.
