I guess there's already a topic on the subject, but i could'nt find it so...

I would just like to know why we don't have numbers in dvd titles of tv shows... I'm not really clear but i'll try to explain

That's what i've got on dvdpro :

Ally McBeal : The Complete Season Five
Ally McBeal : The Complete Season Four
Ally McBeal : The Complete Season One
Ally McBeal : The Complete Season Three
Ally McBeal : The Complete Season Two

And that's what i would like to have :

Ally McBeal : The Complete Season 1
Ally McBeal : The Complete Season 2
Ally McBeal : The Complete Season 3
Ally McBeal : The Complete Season 4
Ally McBeal : The Complete Season 5

Ultimately it doesn't change anything, but it seems more logical to me... I know I can change the profiles just for me, but... why is it in writing in the database ?

And since I'm here...

Why isn't the alphabetical order taking into account the fact that "300" is supposed to be after "7 ans de séduction" ? (or "Friends : l'intégrale de la saison 10" after "Friends : l'intégrale de la saison 9" and not between "Friends : l'intégrale de la saison 1" and "Friends : l'intégrale de la saison 2")

I apologize for my bad english, it's quite late ^^

I don't own the Ally McBeal discs, but... It should be entered as it appears on the cover. If they spell it out, then that is how it should be in DVD Profiler.

But what I think you might be overlooking is the "Sort Title" field. In this field you can enter the title in such a way that it will sort properly. On TV shows that I own that have the season number spelled out, I use the numeral in the sort title field to make them sort properly.  This can also be used to fix your other issue. To make "300" appear after "7 ans de séduction", change the sort titles to "300" and "007 ans de séduction".

Also, the Sort Title field is strictly a local thing. That's why when you download profiles the sort field may not be quite right. I always make a point of checking this field when I download a profile, as that's the easiest time to find a discrepancy.

Hope I explained this properly... I've had a couple of beers...

What a coincidence, I've also had a couple of beers

Alright then, I'll start using the "sort title", I already did a couple times but I didn't thought of it for my problem with numbers  I feel dumb

At least now I know why it's that way in the database, thanks !

It's because we take the title directly from the cover. This way there should be no argument about personal preferences (e.g. what happens on a ten-season series, ist it "season 1" or "season 01").

For sorting you can put any string you want into the sort title.

Quote:

The sort algorithm is based on string comparison. String comparison works on a character-by-character basis. if the first character is identical it goes to the next. Thus "300" is smaller than "7 ans ..." because "3" is smaller than "7".
The same goes for "Friends" season 1, 10, 2, 3....

If you want to have a proper order you'll have to use "0" as fill material. "007" is smaller than "300" and "09" is smaller than "10".
