NEVER had any problem here. Just had to buy a new computer, old power supply crashed....right in the middle of a backup, lol. Sat and thought about it a bit, bought an external case for the old hard drive... bang zoom take off, no pain, no strain. I keep several different sources for backed up data, including my uploads to Invelos several times per day, Invelos keeps ALL my data off my site, the only thing I have to really worry about is my graphics images, over 11 GB worth. But whikle I have been through several different computers the last 8 years with Intervocative/Invelos, I have never experienced an unrecoverable problem and have always been able to get back up and running very quickly. I am thinking about purchasing a big 16GB USB key...that should last me about 18 months and will give me yet another backup location. External Hard Drives, DVD-ROMS, off-site, I think I am covered...knocks on wood....ouch that hurt.

Are both Profilers the same version? You won't be able to restore a backup that was made in a newer version into an older version.

The backup to memory stick method does work great.

BUT.....

I recently found that you can still wind up with problems.  I have two installations of my one db - one at the office and the other at home.  I've done backups on 1 restored to the other - in both directions for years.  But a few weeks ago the backup created on the office computer would fail to restore to the home computer. Instead, it would either just hang early on (around 2% complete - during the 'updating cast data' portion or would yield an error message like "jpeg error #52" - whatever the heck that's supposed to mean.

I've assumed that I had a corrupt jpg file either attached to a cast/crew entry, or possibly a cover scan. Running a database repair does not check the integrity of your images.  I certainly couldn't detect which jpg could be the culprit as I never encountered a problem on the office computer while looking through the collection. But apparently one was problematic if it was compressed into the dpb file.

I finally had to completely uninstall the product on the office machine and fully delete all dvdp-related folders.  Then, after a fresh blank installation, I restored from a backup made on the home computer and only then could I create a error-free backup on the office unit.

So word to the wise - never assume that the backup you just made is a good one. Keep more than one backup on hand and only retire the older one after you've confirmed that the latest one you created is OK by using it to restore a db successfully.

As soon as I either delete this file or edit it to contain even a single character everything is fine.

Have a look around if this, or any other 0 byte long file, is present in your "\Documents and Settings\$Username\My Documents\DVD Profiler\"-folders.
