Separate Lists

Hello,

I don't know if this should be posted here since it's not technical.
However, the 'Feature Requests'-area is obviously to request features rather than asking about existing ones.
So here we go, it's a quite simple question though:

Would it also be possible to keep separate lists for DVDs and BRDs,
or at least separate movies and concerts/music?
So, either with a filter, if so hopefully easily to activate or click you know.
But I was actually hoping I could add more lists, just like the ones called 'Owned', 'Wish List', etc.

IF that's NOT possible, the latter thing anyway, wouldn't it be neat as a new feature?
I could post it there if you all agree, unless it's already possible.

But basically, it's just about I'd like to have at least movies and music separated.
On top of that probably also DVDs and BRDs... maybe... some day... :D

Thanks for reading,
- MicHaeL

There are several ways to achive this.

1) Tags
2) Seperate Databases
3) Collection Numbers
4) Virtual Box Sets

1) Tags are the swiss knife of DVDP. You can create as many as you want, you can structure them in a tree and you can filter for them. I use tags to determine whether a DVD has a german audiotrack, what parts of the profile I have edited/locked, whether I have that particular soundtrack, ...
Tags can be set individually for each movie in the "Tags" window or in batch process under Collection->Flagged->Edit Tags.

2) Under "File" you'll find "Open Database". And there you can create a second (, third, fourth) database that's independent of your first one.

3) Some people use the collection number to create logical ranges. In my collection 1-10,000 are movies, 10,001-20,000 are TV show discs and 20,001-30,000 are Special Interest DVDs (stand-up comedy, documentations).

4) DVDP has a Box Set feature which is normally for things like the "Alien Quadrilogy" where you have a box set profile and then child profiles for each movie. Some people also use them to put a "bracket" around their DVDs, HD-DVDs and Blu-rays. You open the "Add DVD" dialog, go to "Add by Title", uncheck "Download from Invelos". Then you can create a so-called "manual profile". When you edit the profile there's a tab "Box Set Contents" where you can add all the profiles you want.

Post Scriptum: Don't get this the wrong way, it's just a friendly hint: You are not the first to wish for more lists than "Ordered, Wishlist and Owned".

Before making any feature request, please check this thread whether it's already a popular one and already there.

Here's what it looks like (I get so tired of tracking this photo down every month, I've finally added it to my signature.  ):

Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.

Nice about your feedback. But if I choose to create second database, can I also upload it like my default profile? I mean so I can share it online?

Cole, only 1 of your local databases can be uploaded, unfortunately. That's why one of the other 3 methods listed would be the most preferable. For myself, tags would be my choice if I really wanted to keep track separately, since you can do almost anything you can imagine with them.

Not with Invelos's online list. But you could use phpDVDProfiler.

Also you wouldn't have access to the profiles on your mobile device, same goes for the tags option.

at least with the tags option you can use phpdvdprofiler to give different selections using the drop down selection box - for instance my collection has owned/wishlist/ordered/all/anime/black & While/ blu ray/shakespeare/The criterion collection etc etc

Another possibility would be the "My Tabs" Plugin which can be totally customized. So you could create new tabs for BluRays, Music-DVDs, etc.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
