I've just noticed a bug...

1) Add a title to the ordered tab - and download the children too

1 1/2) Wait for the dvd to arrive.....

2) Add the title through the "Add DVD to Collection" dialog (title is moved to owned tab).

The children are still in the ordered tab....

Moving the title using the right-click menu->Move To.. menu works correctly (moves children too)

Why are you using the "Add DVD to Collection" function when the DVD arrives.

If you use the "Move" function instead, I believe it will work fine, although it should also work the way you are doing it.

I tend to use the add to collection to make sure i have the right profile. I add the dvd to the ordered tab by "guessing" which profile it is. When it arrives i add it using the ean to make sure it's the right one. If it is the same then it moves it to the owned tab.

You didn't mention doing this, but you could save yourself some time if you first checked your DVD against the profile you downloaded before.  If it's the correct one (i.e, you "guessed" right), simply MOVE it to owned like Hal suggests, and the children will be moved along with it.  And it's quicker than doing a second download.

I don't remove the original one, it is moved automatically... there is no second download.

Ken was refering to your downloading the profile list a 2nd time (not the profile itself).

A quicker way is
a) select the dvd as you are doing now when you are ordering the dvd
but..
b) when the dvd arrives, check the EAN - if correct MOVE
if incorrect, just update the EAN using the menu, then update the profile. Then MOVE.

much quicker than the convulted way you are currently doing it

I do exactly the same as the OP. Sometimes it's because I've forgotten the title was in my wishlist or sometimes it's because I'm adding new DVDs anyway and don't see the point of leaving where I am just for one title.
Because of that I agree with the OP, if the program is capable of moving a profile from inside the Add DVD window, it should be capable of moving attached child profiles. At the very least it could ask, especially now that adding child profiles is automated, so it's a lot easier to have them existing in Ordered and Wishlist profiles.

That is not quicker.

The quick way is:
Quote:
  • Come back from the store with a stack of new DVDs.

  • Start DVDProfiler.

  • Selet 'add-dvd'.

  • Scan UPC/EAN with my scanner.

  • If the DVD is new it adds it, if it is in my wishlist it moves it. One way to deal with all the new DVDs. Why would you want to do it any other way?

I also use the OP's method, for the same reasons. I use the Add DVD dialog, scan the UPCs of the discs and then the profile will either be moved or I'll potentially find that another one is downloaded (when the originally added one doesn't match the UPC of the delivered item...).

Anyway, I also found that the child profiles hadn't been moved. Well, they are moved somehow within the database but it needed closing and opening of the program to get it displayed properly (I hope I remembered that right, maybe somebody can confirm?).

Interesting.  I validate the EAN (UPC) when the DVD arrives against the EAN (UPC) in DVDP while it's still in the Ordered Tab.

If it's wrong, I do a "Change UPC" (while still under the order tab) and then refresh the profile.  Then I "Move" it to owned.

    Different strokes for different folks.

Either way, the issue that you point out is definitely a bug and should be fixed.
