Adding collection numbers to new child profiles?

When I download the new child profiles in the latest Profiler program version, it assigns them to the box set without any collection numbers. This works for me for box sets where to contents are not separately packaged movies, but I have a different need when the box set consists of individually packaged titles, for example with the James Bond Collections or the Planet of the Apes Evolution set. Here, what I would like to do is remove the collection number from the parent box set profile and assign collection numbers to the individual titles. In my logic at least, this makes sense for collection numbering purposes since I could throw away the box and still have individually packaged keep cases of each film, unlike box sets where the films must remain in one digipak box set case, in which case I treat the parent as the only one with a collection number. So, the problem is, what is the best way to do this when I have well over a hundred box sets that must now be renumbered in this manner? It seems there is no automated way to do this. Even if I manually go and remove the collection number on each parent profile, I find no way to flag and automate renumbering of the child profiles. The "renumber collection" option doesn't seem to have a setting to renumber only flagged profiles unless I am missing it. If I use the option to renumber all profiles without a collection number, it would end up assigning numbers to the parent profile as well, I assume. Any suggestions?

You're correct, the first step is to manually remove the collection# via "CTRL + P" and assigning a virtual number to the boxset content. The renumbering is done automatically though via DVDProfiler menu "Collection -> Reassign collection numbers" Choose the complete renumbering and make sure that the option "assign where none exists" (or equivalent) is unchecked.
It will take some time, but it should work.
With new boxsets, after this procedure, you'd simply have to manually assign the correct collection numbers.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

struggling with the same problem at the moment. Why are the boxset (as only a position) is a counted DVD?
My intention is, to have only the physical existing DVDs counted. Is there an existing solution?

yes, that’s what I've done already!
What I mean is, when adding a boxset (may be it's a clean database) with two DVDs, I have now 3 DVDs in my collection (counted on top of the collection list). But I only have two. That’s not what I have expected

DVD Profiler does not count Discs, it counts profiles. So, if you have a box set with parent profile and two children, your title count will be three. The only way to have an actual disc count would be to exclude the parent.

ok, am I right: it is not possible to see only the really physical existing DVDs in the counter on top of the collection list? I understand it is possible to activate a filter for an already flagged boxset (manually added). After activating that filter I see still the count of three (regarding my last example) but now "filtered" two. That’s stupid!
As a result I have to have in my mind the actual number of boxset’s, just to have an idea how many really existing DVDs I have in my collection - or I have to activate the filter any time!

You can simply give a collection number to actual movies only, then you see how large your number is.

yes, at the end of a more than 500 items long list, but not on top. That's not verry easy to handle!

That's one pull of the scroll bar down. Takes less than 3 seconds on my collection. And how often do you actually need that number?

Hi Karsten,

yes you're right, but ...
I give up, but I don’t understand why they are counting an empty boxset. What is the reason to uncheck the boxset for numbering, and give them a number in total account?

Because the text "Total DVDs" is actually "Number of Profiles". It has nothing to do with actual DVDs (e.g. it doesn't include the number of bonus discs or movies that are split over more than one disc [e.g. Lord of the Rings]).

Everyone is using the collection number for different purposes and in a different way. Some give a collection number to the box set, some to the movies inside, some number season boxes, some season discs.

You're counting the actual disc profiles, not the number of physical discs.  You have to create a master profile in order to have a boxset, but don't let it assign a number to that profile.  When you add the child profiles, you have two ways you can go.  If each one is separately packaged with its own UPC, let it have a number assigned.  If the discs are in a digipack arrangement, going by ID, then I let the program assign a number to the master, and NO number to the children.  Why?  Because I'm profiling titles, not discs.  For example:  My Lethal Weapon boxset has four profiles (1 master, 3 children), but the numbers are only for the children because they have UPCs.  On the other hand, boxset for a season of Stargate SG1, has six profiles (1 master, and 5 children) but only one number (for the master) since the children don't have UPCs.  The renumber function is set to NOT assign numbers to profiles marked 'None' and to sort in alpha order (fine tune with Sort Title) in ascending order.  Works perfectly.
