Protect unused collection numbers when adding new DVDs |

| | Posted: | | | | When I add a new DVD to my collection, I want it to be assigned a new collection number (i.e. the highest number), NOT a previously used number from a DVD that was deleted.
For example, if I have 100 DVDs and I deleted DVD number 10, the next time I add a new DVD it should be assigned 101, not 10.
Is there a way to do this without renumbering my collection? |

| | Posted: | | | | Well, is there a reason why you don't want the program to redo your numbering after you delete your DVD, such as DVD #10, prior to adding new DVDS later? Because if there isn't then you can go to: Collection, Reassign Collection Numbers, and make sure "Assign numbers where blank" is checked. Otherwise, the only other way that I know to prevent the program from taking an open number slot is to manually add the number to the DVD as you add it to your collection.
By the way, if you're planning on saving the number 10 slot for some future DVD you can always go back and add any number to a newly added DVD, even numbers already taken by other DVDs, just make sure "eliminate duplicates" is checked and the program will automatically reassign numbers to the higher numbered DVDs so that the number duplicates are gone. That is how I add DVDs later on as I have my collection mostly catalogued by genre and letter. Hope this helps. |

Maybe the best thing to do is add my new DVDs to the open slots and then reprint only the affected report pages. Thanks! Why not just create a report with text only and have one title per line. I have 1200 titles and can print the whole thing in less than 20 pages like that. | | | John

If this is what you are after, saves you a lot of ink, just dont forget to make a manual empty profile and assing that number you don't want to use.
