Is there anyway to query the database from other applications? Either an online lookup tool or whatever? It would be great if paid registrants could get access to the db to lookup info without having to use the main app. Would open the db to other uses (it is publicly created information after all)

That is true. It would be nice if there was some way for at least registered users to get access. We could be forced to provide our username/password etc. They could even limit the number of request for one userid to like 20 a day or something.

We don't have anyway to search, query, (limited filter options) the Online database. That is not it's primary function, querying and searching are done through your l LOCAL database, which can be transported many different ways, USB key, DVD ROM disc, etc and the Mobile version which can be run on any Windows-based PDA. I can think of no reason to need to perform any such function relative to the Online database.

Many of the reasons that I have downloaded profiles into my local Wish List could be satisfied if I had the ability to search the online db by description, cast and/or crew. I think it's a great idea.

Then why do you have the mobile, james. The idea behind that is to have your data with you in your PDA. Between the mobile and the Base Program you have it covered. There is nothing gained in complicating the Online, unless you don't think we need the local, which is nutsy.

My main reason for having the mobile is so that when I'm wandering the aisles of Best Buy, I can stop myself from buying a duplicate.

I want the local version of the program on my laptop so that I can customize the data to my heart's content.

But most of the data that's in my Wish List, I have no desire to customize it. I just want to do lookups in that data occasionally. If I could do those lookups online instead of having to download the profiles to my local wish list, my backups would be smaller and quicker.

Find that all to hard to believe, james. I understand your premise, but the reality in my experience is that you would lose far more than you would gain. Your backups might be marginally smaller and quicker, I estimate in my case at most 5 minutes, out of a 45 minuite backup, probably less than that. But your Online Queries would devour that savings very quickly.
