There are some mighty bad shows there, but the writer either has a short memory, or knows little of the history of American TV. Any such list which omits "You're in the Picture" with Jackie Gleason cannot be definitive. It aired January 20, 1961, with four celebrity panelists (Pat Harrington, Jr., Pat Carroll, Jan Sterling and Arthur Treacher) standing behind walls which depicted famous scenes, paintings or of song lyrics, with their heads stuck through like boardwalk picture frames. They would each ask yes or no questions of Gleason about the scene that they could not see, trying to figure out what the scene was. Stuck behind the board unable to move or be seen (other than their faces), the show was dull beyond belief. The second week's show was nothing but Gleason apologizing for the first show.

And "The Baileys of Balboa" and "Turn-On" and "Jackpot Bowling" and...
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Just some thoughts on some of these shows:

Cop Rock: The commercials for this seemed like it was going to be such a cool show. Then I watched the first episode. Somehow this show seemed to develop a small cult following.

BJ & the Bear: hey I actually liked this show!

All American Girl: It wasn't too bad. I kinda liked it.

The Michael Richards Show: Ugh. As one critic put it, after being on Seinfeld where the supporting cast was so strong, Richards had NOTHING iin the supporting cast for this stinker.

I never saw more than the mention of some of these shows in a news paper
TV listing or the scanning by them in search of something to watch.

Since most of these shows seem to be sitcoms and based on the stupidity of their premises either the network management most have been either very desperate for a sitcom or just plain____, well I'll let you fill in the bank.

Our world financial crises being an example of management greed and incompetence.

An other example:
Worker dead at desk for five days
From the New York Times: Bosses of a publishing firm are trying to work out why no one noticed that one of their employees had been sitting dead at his desk for five days before anyone asked if he was feeling okay. George Turklebaum, 51, who had been employed as a proof-reader at a New York him for 30 years. had a heart attack in the open-plan office he shared with 23 other workers.

He quietly passed away on Monday, but nobody noticed until Saturday morning when an office cleaner asked why he was wonting during the weekend.

His boss, Elliot Wachiaski, said: 'George was always the first guy in each morning and the last to leave at night, so no one found it unusual that he was in the same position all that time and didn't say anything. He was always absorbed in his work and kept much to himself.

A post modem examination revealed that he had been dead for five days after suffering a coronary. George was proofreading manuscripts of medical textbooks when he died.

You may want to give your co-workers a nudge occationaliy, The moral of the story: Dor't work too hard. Nobody notices anyway.

Is there a sitcom there?
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

I actually liked After MASH, Double Trouble and the few minutes I saw of an episode or two of Harry And The Hendersons.

I wonder why no Reality TV shows are listed?

Personally I think Jackass and the The Tom Green Show should be on that list.

It would be pretty difficult for me to pick JUST 25 worst shows.  There have been a lot of stinkers over the years.  Maybe it would be easier to pick a list if you put in a restriction that the show had to be on the air for a full season before being eligible for this award...

On the flip side of this, there have been some shows that were lucky to make it past their first season due to low ratings.  Cheers was ranked dead last during it's first season.  The network decided to give it a chance and it became one of the most popular sitcoms and ended up lasting 10 years.  Seinfeld was another great show that almost didn't make it due to initially low ratings and went on for 9 seasons and became a TV classic.

Could any of the short lived series on this list have improved or found their audience if given a little more time?  We'll never know.  (I think that most on this list of 25 were pretty awful and not likely to have improved with age.)

jgilligan,

Some of them also could have suffered from constant schedule shifting. I hate when that happens.
