I have DVD Profiler with the same latest non-beta version installed on three PCs. I use back-up and restore via wlan to keep the same database on all three PCs. My old PC has XP, my home theatre PC has XP Media Edition (or something similar) and my new main PC has Vista. I use the vista computer to add new DVDs and maintain my database and the home theatre PC simply to show available movies.

My movies (around 1400 of them) are kept in four DVD megachangers, controlled by a Universal MX-3000 remote control using DMX-3000 software. To keep the remote control updated on all my movies I need to export my DVD Profiler database as an xml file to the DMX-3000 software. This works well on my old XP PC, but not on the Vista, which simpy hangs after I press the "I agree" button. Does anyone else have the same problem and/or has a solution been found?

(This is not the Actice Sync issue that MX-Editor has with Vista).

Its not a problem with vista. I export my collection to xml everyday and I'm on vista with SP1 and no problems. Not had problems either before SP1.

I have a similar problem on Win2K, except that DVDProfiler hangs after the export has been completed.

It doesn't happen always and I'm unable to determine the exact conditions that lead to it.

Don't know whether it will help, but try this:

open the Registry editor via Start -> Run -> regedit -> OK

go to HKEY_Current_User -> Software -> Invelos Software -> DVD Profiler -> XMLExport

there is a key called ExportDir. Where does it point? Try to change it to a directory that is both available and not in danger of being protected by Vista's UAC (User Account Control). For example, point it to your personal files directory, or if you have a secondary partition (not the one where Windows is installed), then point it there

Maybe that'll help.

what I've started doing is setting up a command file to do the backup, and then schedule this to run.
So a) I don't forget and b) it always works ok.

command file: E:\Apps\DVD Profiler Command files\export.txt

OpenDatabase Default
ExportXMLAll E:\Homepage_Sites\SF-Brain\phpdvdprofiler\Collection.xml
Close

Scheduled task -

"E:\Apps\DVD Profiler\dvdpro.exe"  /CommandFile "E:\Apps\DVD Profiler Command files\export.txt"

Gentlemen,

I am afraid that you are way above my level of understanding and sophistication, but at  least Karsten seems to have pointed my in the right direction, the pointer was to my old PC. I have now managed to change it so it exports to my new PC, but I am now unable to open the file! It is there to see and check properties etc, but once I try to open it I get an error message saying the file doesn't exist...!

I would love the automation Paul describes, but I'll probably just end up routinely wipe my hard disc or something as I for me using word instead of a typewriter is a marvel of modern technology.

I will keep experimenting though

access rights for the current user trying to access the file? Try changing these by right clicking on that file if you have the admistrator rights to do so?
right click on the folder where this xml files is in and In the dialog box that pops up make sure you are on the security tab and then select 'Users' and grant them 'Full Control'. This will set the folder so the user has the correct access and it should be inherited by all the files and folder under that but to make 100% sure click on the 'Advanced' button.
