| | Posted: | | | | I've been trying to backup my collection to a CD-R and running into an error.
I click on backup database. I check specific location for the backup...and click browse.
I select the drive with my cd burner (drive d) and hit save.
I come back to the backup screen and it shows the location as D:\backup.dpb.
When I hit ok I get the following error: Cannot create file D:\backup.dpt.
The burner does work. I've burned other cds. I just can't get it to work with this backup.
This is a brand new disc. Any suggestions? Am I missing something obvious?

| | Posted: | | | | You know of course what you burn to the disc ( .dpb .,, not .dpt ) , but the file in question will only be able to be read thru the invelos program.., and why would you burn to a CD-R.. | | Posted: | | | | Burning CD-ROMs usually requires a burning program, the backup program of DVDProfiler isn't one of them. There are some burner which support direct burning access by any program, but this requires, as Terry pointed out, CD-RWs as media.
The easiest way to get your backup on a CD will be to create a backup onto your HDD and then use your burning program. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

| | Posted: | | | | I'm not at home right now but going from memory... I had just backed up to my hard drive like I normally do...when I notcied the backup folder in that window. I just right clicked it...sent it to drive D and there it was for burning to cd. I compared the size on the disc to what was on my hard drive and it was within a mb or so. It looked like it saved it...of course I've been wrong about things before so...if/when my pc dies I hope they'll be on cd.  |

I just opened a second database and loaded from the cd I made with no problems. Everything came through. |

Got the backup to CD to work directly from DVD Profiler? How? If you have programs like Nero InCD or Roxio DragToDisc, it accesses a writeable CD (or even DVD) like a hard drive. These programs also have conflicts with most other CD/DVD burning software, but its a question of tradeoffs. |

| | Posted: | | | | Just a small suggestion that I mentioned in another thread. When you burn your backups put them in a safe deposit box. I do this every month so my inventory is pretty current and also males it safe in case of fire.
