| Posted: | | | | Me too: there's no easy one-stop-solution for determining whether a song is an "original" one, "written especially for the movie". It just takes a lot of research, and you won't even always be able to find a definitive answer. Usually, I drop every song writer except for the songs that I can find some solid documentation on. I'll add one thing, though: in this case I'm not even entirely sure about 'Someone to Love' - Wikipedia says: " 'Someone to Love' is the fifth track on Jon B.'s debut album, Bonafide. This song is a duet with Babyface that gained wide exposure on the Bad Boys soundtrack." If it was on his own debut album BEFORE the movie, only gaining wide exposure after it had been included on the soundtrack, then I would't call it "written especially for the movie". Edit: with regards to the above - I noticed that the movie 'Bad Boys' was released on April 7, 1995, while Jon B.'s debut album 'Bonafide' wasn't released until August 24, 1995. IMHO, that makes it being "original" for our purposes a lot more believable. Anyway - if you decide to keep him, make sure you use the correct "common name" for Babyface - he's used quite a few different variants already... | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Agreed with Skip and T!M, this is hard research work. I for one just leave songs out of the credits if I'm not sure. Best indicator is probably a "songs by" or similar somewhere near the score credit. But mostly you just get a list of songs at the end of the credits. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Giga Wizard: Quote: Me Against The World (Tupac Shakur, Soulshock, Karlin, Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Minnie Riperton, Richard Rudolph & Leo Ware) Normally listing people who were dead long before the movie (Riperton) is a giveaway but she, and presumably Bacharach & David were sampled for the Tupac song. Quote: So Many Ways (Bad Boys Version) (Warren G.) Likely an earlier version if there is a Bad Boy's version. Depending on the sloppiness of the credits i will try and find out when the song was released and if it was more than a few months prior to the film release i'll propose removing it. But it can be a lot of work. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Giga Wizard: Quote: Got the idea: 1975 Me Against The World: nominated Grammy performed by Helen Reddy I don't think Tupac's song is a remake of You and Me Against the World by Helen Reddy. I haven't seen the movie in years and don't remember the song so hearing it might change my mind. But they probably would've credited Paul Williams for writing also as he wrote Reddy's song. Me Against the World was the title track of Tupac's album which was released a month prior to the movie. I don't see any evidence indicating it was written for the film. You're still justified, in my opinion, in dropping it. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | Didn't realise what I was getting into here, but there are the same issues with "Bad Boys II". Documenting this here, before I forget all the work I did. I gather that only Trevor should be added from this list: Score Composed by Trevor Rabin Additional Music by Dr. Dre Executive Music Consultant Sean "P. Diddy" Combs Additional Score Composed by Steve Jablonsky Additional Dr. Dre Music by Mike Elizondo Songs: According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Boys_II_(soundtrack), P. Diddy claims they were all new songs, but obviously there were some he was not involved with. I have used allmusic.com to assess whether tracks were previously released. Unknown: Xtreme Machine (Paul Linford) - No licensing or courtesy listed. Previously Released: Bad Boys (Ian Lewis) Theme from 'A Summer Place' (Max Steiner) Stuck in the Middle (Paul Crossman, Philip Burrows-Watson) Atrevido (Nicolas Nocchi and others) Cosmic Dancer (J. Scott G., Jason Blum) Bitch Niggaz (Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre) Rollout (My Business) (Ludacris and others) Move Bitch (Ludacris and others) Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (Bach) Written for the Movie: Shake Ya Tailfeather (Nelly, Varick Smith (Smitty), Murphy Lee, Jayson Bridges) Didn't Mean (Mary J. Blige, Sean Combs (P. Diddy), Dimitri Christo, Dong-Hwa Chung, Isabel Gilberto de Oliveria (Bebel Gilberto), Kamaal Ibn Fareed (Q-Tip), Ali Shaheed Jones-Muhammad (Mr. Muhammad), Malik Izaak Taylor (Phife Dawg), James DeWitt Yancey (J Dilla/Jay Dee)) Girl I'm a Bad Boy (Joseph Cartagena (Fat Joe), Andre Lyon (Dre), Marcello Valenzano (Cool), Varick Smith (Smitty)) Show Me Your Soul (Pharrell Williams, Lenny Kravitz, Sean Combs (P.
