| | Posted: | | | | I had to do a complete reinstall of my OS and while I had a backup of my collection, it was on the C drive and therefore was lost. I do have a complete XML file of my collection. Is there anyway to import the data from the XML file? I'd obviously like to find someway to avoid having to reenter all my DVDs by hand.

But there is a plugin called the UPC Import plugin which, if you're able to extract the UPC numbers from your XML file, should go a long way to getting your database back up and running.

If you at least had the uploaded library on file (http://www.invelos.com/dvdcollection.aspx/sic0048) it would have saved you a lot of time in scanning in or typing in the bar codes. This is one of the benefits of owning Invelos, as I see you are registered . For others who are reading this and have NOT saved or backed up your titles.. do it now., only takes a minute or more and is quite a life saver in keeping your data base on tract and up to date. If you have a lot of special notes or have made your own personal additions to your own data base., save that .dpb files now to a separate HD or memory stick. It does absolutely no good going through the motions of backing up your collection if your file is located on your most vulnerable source. Follow Northbloke's advice and download the UPC Import plugin. That should save you a lot of time in rebuilding your collection. After that, backup your collection to a couple of external locations such as an external HD, a USB stick or CD. Good luck. | | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

You'll be glad you did..... I didn't even know there was a online option. I will definitely do that in the future. My main use of DVDProfiler is simply to create the XML file to use by my Home Automation system. The system simply scrapes the information from the XML file and that has been my main focus. So while I was protective of the XML file, I wasn't as diligent about the actual database. Lession learned. That's for the information. I'll try the plugin and see if that helps. Heck - anything would be better than nothing at this point. |
