Sometimes I will inadvertently undock or close one of the display windows.  This is very annoying and it is hard and often impossible to undue the change and restore the original look.  There should be an option to save the layout so it can be easily restored.  Also, if the layout is changed that change there should be an option to undue any changes when the program is closed.

Under the "View" menu, you'll see options for "Load Layout" (which has a template for the default) and "Save Layout" which you can use to save any modifications you like to use.

Every so often I do something that messes up the layout and I have to restore it.

Howver, every time I do that it also throws off my Goodguy's Profile Comparison Plus plugin and I have to uninstall and reinstall it -- otherwise it doesn't work and I have to use the default comparison screens which aren't as handy.

Same thing here, though I just loose the profile comparison plus and need to reinstall it...no uninstall necessary

Just happened to me not 10 minutes ago.  Somehow I did something that caused some of the tabs (A/V, Subtitles, Notes, Discs) to go away and I had to reload the layout.  Then the Goodguy Comparison Plug In didn't work -- got an error about it not being the proper version or something like that.  The only way I could get it back was to exit Profiler, and the uninstall and reinstall the plugin.

maybe this could have worked: from the dvd profiler menu:
  • View
  • Windows
  • [V] the missing windows

  • double clicking the window title releases or fixes that window
on the right hand top of most windows is an icon (thumbtack or drawing-pin, the middle one) it is vertical, if you click it the window floats of to a possition on the layout, hover over the collapsed window makes it appear again click the horizontal icon (thumbtack or drawing-pin, the middle one) to fix it again.

tabs like this gone, just notes?

this is where you control the tabs of that window.

see the relevant [v] boxes are unmarked. If you mark them they should be back somewhere. I think it is a combination of this and what i mentioned previous. I use the same layout, this hapens when you unpin that window from the layout, hence the drawing-pin icon.

    @giga
What I get looks like this.

I think I did the View>Windows but all the boxes were checked including the missing ones, if I recall correctly.

Ok, I can't recreate this situation. when I have only the discs window, I don't have a tab Discs. But those are separate windows and can be unstacked (seperate the notes windows from the discs windows. Double clicking on the tab could also help, and draging and dropping the window on to other windows, yeah you can realy mess up a layout, and at that time a reload is the fasted way to revert the situation.

The worst part about this is the fact that I never know what I did to "disappear" the other windows -- I only notice it when I see that the windows behind the active one are gone.  Since I don't know what I did to make them go away, I have absolutely no idea how to get them back other than to reload the layout all over again.

This sometimes happens to me in PhotoShop, too, and I don't have any idea how to fix it there, either.

    Thanks for the suggestions, Giga.
