It can't be done simultaneously, i.e., tabs, which is a feature that has been requested. Although, there is a plugin called My Tabs that might help you out.

If you just want to view your SD DVDs by themselves, without your HD DVDs, or vice versa, you can filter them out by deselecting them in the filters tab under "Media Type". If you can't see the filters tab, hit Ctrl F.

If this is of any help:
1) in the collection list: right click on any title and select view Columns
select here Media Type, you have now a new column Media Type
when you click on the label you have them sorted/media wise

2) another way could be the filter window if iut is not there press CTRL F simultaneous
in the filter window you go to Formats
in the Formats you can mark the media
DVD
HD DVD
Blu-ray
by unselecting any of the 2 media's you don't want to see, it will show you only the selected media

Another option which some people have done is create a profile for each of SD, HD DVD and Blu-Ray, then attach all the relevent profiles to each like a boxset.
That way, to see (or get of) one format simply click on the + (or -) next to the SD, HD DVD or Blu-Ray.
