Central database in a network |

I just added a new pc into my network and upgraded to dvdpr 3.1. With the former release it was possible to maintain just a central database, which was accessed from several PCs. I even started the exe from my NAS.
This seems no more working. Under Vista, dvdpro creates a local db under <username><documents><dvd profiler>, on WinXP under <documents and settings><dvd profiler>. I tried now to replace the folder on the "slaves" with a shortcut, pointing to the NAS. But dvdpro opens with an empty db. Has anyone tried this successfully? Any hint how this could work? Many thanks in advance.

Go to Open Database then click on New Database
When it brings up the new database window, browse away from the default location (My Documents) and point it to your network drive instead.
Remember to tick the box at the bottom where it says "Copy the current database"
Then when you click OK, you should have your database on the network drive instead of a local drive.
Please note some folders have to stay local (Reports, Layouts etc.) and only one instance of Profiler can be running at any one time.

Edit: once this is done, it should be safe to delete the local database, but I'd wait to make sure it works properly before you do that! | | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

I will do some more testing tonight, especially regarding the reports, layouts, etc. folders, if they are needed on the local PC.

| | Posted: | | | | I just tried to delete the local folder <My Documents\DVD Profiler> which basically hosts the default database, filters, flags, layouts, reports and translations. If this folder isn't existing locally, DVDpro creates the whole tree at startup, but just without any files. The files used are on the network drive. So it is not necessary to copy any data to the local folder. Backup may be run centrally.
I also deleted the default database location, so the only entry is now my network database.
