Hi there,

When trying to back up my database i get a message halfway through that reads

'0/00/0000 is not a valid date' and it stops the backup.

Im sure its something simple that needs to be changes somewhere , Any tips?  thanks.

There is a date - potentially like a loaned to date that is blank. Unfortunately, I don't have a good automated solution to help you find it, and repairing the database probably won't fix it either.

Perhaps you can download a Report that shows the loaned to dates and see if a there is an invalid date?

Or, if you have MS Excel, you can export your database to xml and open it in Excel and see where the offending date is?

It can be any other dates in the program: Purchase date, Watched on, Returned dates.

8Ball's suggestion about exporting it to XML and then importing it into Excel is a good idea.

You could try backing up just a portion of your collection at a time. A-F, G-M, etc. Without doing the scans it will backup pretty quick.

Once you find the group that doesn't backup properly narrow it down again until you find the bad profile.

Good Luck... and welcome to the forums!

thanks for all the replies!

I tried backing them up in sections , A-B , C-D etc and this worked fine. However it still wont let me back it up as one file.

The only thing i can think of is there is a discrepency between the total dvd's and the Dvd's filtered by 1 dvd on a permanent basis. Clearing the filters doesnt do anything to bring them into line.

If i restore the database will this be fixed? and if i restore will i lose all my personal info like watched dates etc?

I would try backing them up into sections, each using a different file (you may still have those).  Then create a new database and restore each section into that.

likely yes, you will lose everything to the point when you made the backup.
Did you try the Excel proposal? This seems the way to go.
If you don't have Excel you could download this free alternative: OpenOffice
and you would use this application from the program suite: Calc

I wouldn't even use Excel. Just open the XML in an editor and search for '0000'.

(to expand on what Dr K mentioned...)
If this way of making your emergency backup has worked for you, you can restore the multiple backups into a new single database:
- Create a new database {recommended, but not required} (File > Open Database > New database)
- restore your first backup
- restore your next backups but select "Restore Specific Profiles" then click "Select All", this will add to your existing data without erasing the previous sets.

Likely will be fixed... anything that Profiller can't display is not likely to be backed up - especially if you are using flags to make your partial backups (if you can't see it, you can't flag it )
All personal data is retained - even the online version of backup keeps that data (the only exception I recall is if you've made custom overviews or easter eggs)

Finding the offending profile and fixing the problem directly is perhaps preferable to the long multi-backup/restore method tho.
