Hi there,

I am trying to add a DVD-Box that has no UPC/EAN.

It's German and it's called "Tage, die die Welt bewegten". In the database there are all 16 single parts of that box set as they were sold with a daily newspaper over many weeks. Some time later you could order the whole series in a paper box kind of thing. Now I'd like to add the box itself with it's scanned front and back covers to DVD Profiler and group the 16 single parts within this box. But unfortunately the box has no UPC/EAN number and so do the 16 single parts.

My first aproach was to use a fake UPC/EAN (000000000001) to be able to create the box in the first place. But now I cannot upload the finished profile as it says that the UPC/EAN can not be matched with an existing one (or some similar error).

I know I can change the UPC/EAN from the menu entry "DVD". But there is no UPC/EAN that is correct. So what number should I put in there? Is there a dummy-number of some kind for such circumstances? And is there no option to add DVDs without UPC/EAN in DVD Profiler?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Steve

Hello Steve,

Welcome to the forums!

In general, there is one other way to contribute, and that's by Disc ID. You can insert the DVD you would like to contribute, and then from the menu "DVD" choose "Change UPC/EAN" and tick the box "Use disc ID from inserted disc".

However, you're saying that the database already contains the 16 individual discs of the box set and also that they have no UPC/EAN. That means they were entered by Disc ID (it's the only other way). And unfortunately THAT means you cannot contribute the data for the box set to the central Invelos database.

If the 16 individual discs would have had UPC/EANs, then you would have had the option of using the Disc ID of the first disc for the entire box set. But because that has been used already, this is not an option.

All you can do is create a new manual box set profile for your local collection and group the 16 discs with it (meaning: have the manual box set profile as a parent profile and the 16 existing profiles for the individual discs as child profiles). But you will not be able to contribute the parent profile for the box set. Sorry!

This is not the first time someone is running into this type of problem, and other ways to identify DVD releases for the central database have been discussed in the past in these forums. However, until now, there is no solution that has been implemented yet, so you'll have to wait and see if at some point in the future in any future release of DVD Profiler this issue will be addressed.

Best regards,
DJ

Hello DJ,

thanks very much for the detailed answer! I thought that it would end up that way as I already thought of using the disc ID but knowing there can only be one disc ID and the 16 ones where already in use.

Sad but can't change it, can we? So we wait for a solution from invelos.

Thanks again for helping!

Kind Regards
Steve
