I was using the 'Movie Pick' feature to decide which DVD to watch. I was sorting the DVDs based on how long ago I had watched them (like a true DVD addict, I keep track of every single time I watch a DVD). Perhaps I didn't fully understand how 'Movie Pick' works but I was 'selecting' several titles as possible ones to watch, as they came up. I put about 13 DVDs into the 'Selected' box and then hit OK to see what would happen.

Not much happened. Not that I noticed right away anyway.

Later in the day I was sorting my collection based on 'Last Watched' date and noticed that those 13 titles came up as having JUST been watched today. I checked the history for each one and sure enough, DVD Profiler had added a viewing event for each of those movies. Ok, so maybe Movie Pick automatically adds a viewing event when you 'select' them from the Movie Pick feature.

Anyway, what I did next was go into my own user profile and edit my own history. I deleted all the events for today and then went to each DVD and double checked the Viewing History for those DVDs. Sure enough all the events for today had been removed. Ok, so far so good.

Now here's where the trouble starts:

When I try to sort my collection again by 'Last Viewed', those 13 DVDs are still being sorted as though they've been watched today. But each of their individual histories (Ctrl-H) show no viewing event for today. So my only guess here is that even though I deleted the events from my User History, which in turn deleted the events from the DVD's viewing history, somehow today's date is still sitting in some hidden field, and is being used when I attempt to sort the collection by Last Watched date.

Does all that make sense?

So what's the solution, oh fellow DVD Profiler gurus?

not sure about the sorting issue, but as far the movie pick marking the titles as watched. in the bottom right corner of the movie pick window there is a section labeled 'Actions'. There are two options 'Flag selected' and 'Mark selected as watched'. When you bring the movie pick window up the default (not sure if you can change this somewhere) is for 'Flag selected' to not be checked and 'Mark selected as watched' to be checked. so if you select a few titles and then say ok without changing the 'Actions' it will be marked as watched.

Since you can 'pick' more than one movie i think it would make more sense if the default was to flag the titles and not mark them as watched seeing as you can only watch one title. Or maybe if only one title is selected it defaults to mark as watched but if you selected more than one it changes to flag titles.

I never use that Movie Pick part of the program because I believe it is defective.. Movie Pick should work on genre..  Like If I pick a drama it should randomly pick drama not musicals or sci-fi. ,
but instead it just randomly picks anything it wants.... I could do that myself in the dark..

This is a bug in the 'watched by' feature. I've had this happen to me - I set the watched by date on a couple of dvds that I had watched some time ago - and got the date wrong (set to the current date)

So I corrected it to an earlier date but when sorting by last watched they still came up as last dvds that I watched.

So yes - there appears to be two fields used for this date - one we can ses (and change) and another hidden date.

I got round my problem by deleting all the history for that dvd. All my own watching history since the date that I wanted to enter. And then re-entering all the watching history I had deleted. ( Note: I also did a strange dance and waved my hands a lot - so something else I did may have actually sorted the date out..)

The phrase 'pain in the arse' sprung to mind.

Lesson learnt - get it right first time.

Well, I managed to fix the problem by clearing the event history for each of those 13 DVDs and re-entering the watched dates. Only took a couple minutes since there were only 13 of them, and now it is sorting correctly.

Agrare, thanks for the heads-up about that 'Actions' field. I'll be sure to use it in the future.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
