hi

today i contributed two blu-ray profiles, they were ocean's 11 (085391161042) &12 (085391161059). a fellow user voted no, stating they were already part of a blu-ray boxset (085391182412). at first i also thought they had the same cover art. they do not. if you look at the rear of the boxset, you will notice that the cover art is different. the new release date is 4/29/2008 for the two blu-rays. i can not debate the upc's being the same.

my fellow user has the following view: "Since these are Blu-Ray disc the disc-ID option is not possible. I guess since Warner knew they would eventually sell the Ocean films seperately they just used the same cover/discs for the boxset and the seperately sold versions. (boxset info: http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?userid=99366044307499&item_id=1368534&searchID=144911)

I guess you'll just have to keep teh info as it is since they are essentially the same except this time sold seperately, of course you can always change things locally".

how does the dvdp community view this situation?

Sorry to tell you that the "NO"-voter is correct.
You should keep the image changes local.
Some users would like to see the possibility to store various scans for one profile because of situations like this.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I can't access Profiler at the minute, so can't check, but if the blu-rays that were available in the boxset are already using the UPC codes as the individual releases then they do get priority.
I do find it odd however that they would print barcodes on the individual films where most of the time they leave it blank and only the boxset itself gets a UPC

Unfortunately, since the Box Set was released first you'll just have to keep your data local until such time that we are able to enter Blu-ray Disc IDs.

Wait a second! Are you saying that if I buy Ocean's Eleven by itself and enter the UPC, that I'll never be able to enter it into DVDProfiler because it is already included in a Box Set?  That's pretty bogus.  Are you guys being paid off by Fox to use the profile approval process to get users to buy the more expensive Box Set?
Regards,

Robert

no you can enter it. You can even download the existing profile. Just that profile may not exactly match the individually released copy you purchased, and from the sounds of it the cover images are slightly different.

You can locally make the changes to reflect your copy, but since it is a re-release you cannot contribute any of the changes specific to the re-release

Fox is such an awesome company!  Imagine them spending all this money paying people off to improve Warner Bros. profit margin.

If I am being paid off, could you drop Fox a quick note and let them know that I'm still waiting for my cheques?  Thanks

Mine is missing too. Possibly Fox is insolvent?
