| | Posted: | | | | I'm about to upgrade my operating system 2000 pro to XP Pro. For DVD Profiler are there any drivers or software patches I should obtain? Also, what should I do in preparation prior to the conversion? I'm not that technically savvy to handle this alone, so my neighbor who built the computer for me and occasionally helps me with technical issues is handling the upgrade and suggested I check out all the software I use to make sure they can run on XP and that if possible are updated in advance, particularly, database programs (i.e. in my case DVD Pro and Quicken). Any help is appreciated. The last upgrade for me was from Win 98 to Win 2000 Pro and was some years ago and I forgot what I did back then.  |

| | Posted: | | | | Profiler works just fine under XP, no drivers or patches to DL. The only thing you should do is make a backup of your DB to an external source...CD, memory stick, etc.
Once you have updated your OS, simply redownload the program, enter your registration code and restore your DB.

Backup your current local database and restore in the new installation. Please ask again if you need the procedure or just try the forum search. | | Posted: | | | | I don't know if it would matter, but I would make sure you are running the latest version on your current computer. Then run your backup. That way, when you reinstall after the upgrade and you know the backup you are restoring from was made with the same version of the program you are loading it to. Might not be necessary as the program probably handles older backups, but it also couldn't hurt.
also, are you actually applying an upgrade to your Win 2000 to go to Win XP or are you doing a fresh install of XP? I always recommend doing a fresh install of a new operating system when possible rather than applying an upgrade.

I just don't want to run into any problems. I tried a forum search with no results, perhaps I chose the wrong parameters. You shouldn't install one OS with another still running on your PC. This might cause severe problems, or in the MS logic " it might work but it doesn't have to". It's better to backup all your personal data and reinstall the required software on a clean system. If the update works you wouldn't have to reinstall any software because XP is supposed to transfer the Win2K settings. This works, provided all your software and installed drivers are compatible to XP. So whatever way you choose: Backup first then update! | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
