I simply find this feature annoying. I've configured my firewall so that every program must ask permission to access the Internet, safe for my mail client, my browsers and my antivirus definitions module.

When I launch 3.1.1, just to browse my collection, my firewall opens a popup saying that "DVD Profiler is trying to access the Internet", even though it is not required for browsing purposes and I know that there isn't a new version.
When I deny access, DVD Profiler becomes unresponsive for at least 10 seconds.

If I try to add a DVD to my collection during a session in which I denied Internet access, I get "Socket Error #11001 Host not found" error message: that's normal, though it is mostly hidden by the "Connecting to Invelos Software..." dialog.
After clicking OK than Cancel, DVD Profiler becomes once again unresponsive for 20-30 seconds.

So basically, in order to update your collection, you'd better first check whether there is a new version of DVD Profiler. That's ludicrous.

I hope you'll consider implementing a disable "auto check" mechanism in the next version.
In the mean time, is it safe to rollback to 3.1.0?

I'd like to add that an open internet connection shouldn't really be required just to browse your local collection.  There are times when our network at home does not have an active connection and the resulting lag time when opening DVDP I must admit can be a minor annoyance. 

Perhaps a command line option switch to enable a session without an internet connection present could be considered with the next release?

Thanks a lot, the thought of that will give me nightmares for weeks and I'll have to spend hours getting my 3G phone set up as an alternative connection if the ADSL goes down. 

It doesn't take hours.

Just connect using bluetooth and set the connection as dial up via bluetooth. Then set the phone number so it goes out over the 3G.

it took me 5 mins
