| Posted: | | | | How do you manage it to archive your movie recordings from TV?
(Sorry, my English is not too well...)
Problem 1: How do you distinguish the DVD types (original dvd vs. your own tv recordings)? When browsing through my archive I'd like to know at once what quality I can expect. At the moment I misuse the "buying location" field for this ("bought from TV"). Not very satisfying...
Problem 2: My DVD recorder is set up in a way so that often two movies fit on one DVD. How do you note this for the second movie, to find it in your collection lateron? At the moment I write this down in the "Personal notes" field (xxx: "on yyy"). Often overlooked from me, there... |

| Posted: | | | | I'd use tags to indicate personal dvds. I created one called "Made by Me" and click that when I'm entering them into the database.
For two movies, create a parent profile that's basically empty...ex: you have Mission Impossible 1 and 2 on one dvd. Parent named Mission Impossible (or whatever you'd want) and then have one profile for the first movie and one for the second that's attached to the parent (main) profile. | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | hello,
the program is not intended to be used for personal recordings in this nature. any way you can get support for this is basically a manual work around...
problem 1: there is no way to distinguish this - the program is intended for purchased movies and home videos as manual profiles... there is no way to distinguish what is burned and what is not. the buying location is a good work around, i would also suggest possibly just creating a manual profile for the title and using your own custom cover art.. that would be apparent.
problem 2: again, the program is not intended for this, the work around i would suspect would work best is either what you are doing or just splitting the title like: Movie 1 / Movie 2 - then filter on "full substring search" | | | -JoN |

| Posted: | | | | JoN, not to create an argument *grin* but I disagree...I think it's made for any DVD...the fact we can create a manual profile suggests this...do we contribute it? No, but we can still do it. I use it for home movies as it's nice to know what's been transfered over and what hasn't and the occasional movie I have from TV that's not made it to DVD yet (this is getting smaller all the time, but there are still a couple out there that haven't). Tags are the way to go to organize in the new profiler...
You can easily create tags and click the DVDs you want to put in one category or another. Made by me, TV on DVD, box sets, cartoons...the list is endless of what you can group together without having to use another feature in a "creative" manner. | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | A problem with tags: as far as I can see I cannot see them in the DVD list.
When looking over a list of films and trying to decide which one to watch, this were informations I'd like to see at once.
But the only columns I can choose are fixed attributes, such as the media type. Media type - this would be a place where such an information would fit (DVD, HD DVD, TV DVD, ...). But there isn't a way to define own media types, or is there?
Maybe I'll misuse the "disk place" - "this disk is in my TV DVD box" (shudder...)
The argument "intended for purchased movies"... I don't know. I think the developers just didn't notice the obvious advantages that two or three additional attributes would have for DVD recorder owners - and I think there are many by now.
Or is it possible to see tags in the DVD list?! |

| Posted: | | | | You could add it in the Edition Field for the DVD and it would display after every title as TV DVD. That should not cause a problem because non of them are special edition ect. And since they are home made they can not contributed anyway. And the info would show up in you list and the online in you collection.
