Why don't we wait and see.  The remake of "War of the Worlds" was pretty good.  Who knows?...

I hope they never redo 2001: A Space Odyssey ..

Remakes almost always disappoint me. There are exceptions, but off hand I can't think of very many.

I though High Society (1956) was quite good, as well as the original Philadelphia Story (1940), but it was made into a musical so it wasn't a straight remake.

I haven't seen the original Maltese Falcon, but I doubt that it tops the Bogart remake.

The '78 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers was on par with the original.

Those are the only ones that come to mind right now.

They are planning on remaking John Carpenter's Escape from New York with Gerald Butler as Snake Plisken!!!

I have also heard rumors of a 2nd remake of The Thing!!!

Nothing in Hollywood is sacred!!!

No it wasn't! The WotW remake was just post 9/11 hollywood crap. With Tom Cruise which made it even worse.

Have you ever actually read the original book?  Spielberg's version was a hell of a lot closer to the original than the Gene Berry version.

Being closer to the book doesn't necessarily make it a better film. Timothy Hines' version of War of the Worlds is closer to the book than both Spielberg's version and the '53 version, but that certainly doesn't make it a better film. Anyone who has seen it can attest to that...
