When a lock is set for a cover image, would it be nice if the right-click option to "Paste" a new cover image was greyed out and not allowed. You should still be able to edit the image and paste from there. But currently it is to easy to overwrite an existing locked image.

I think the locks are only there to stop online updates from changing your profiles. They're not there to stop you from changing your own profiles.

That's right, it works the other way around. AFTER you have pasted in your own image, you wouldn't want it to be accidentally overwritten by an update.
So the feature request could be to automatically set a lock after pasting...

True, that's the reason for the feature request, to expand on what the locks currently provide.

In an older version of Profiler (2.3 or 2.2), the locks also prohibited you to edit the profiles locally by default. I think you could switch that behavior off. But after consulting with the users, Ken decided during a beta phase to remove this functionality, because most users felt, that it was a feature which was more an annoyance than help.

Also true, I remember that feature, never turned it on though. The problem with the covers though, is unlike the rest of the profile, you can just paste any image onto an existing image without being asked to save it first. Just by right-clicking, even a mistake to "copy" and you accidental hit "paste" will overwrite an existing scan. All I'm asking is that if you have the lock set, that option is no longer available. You would then have to either unlock that image, or go into the "Edit cover images.." to overwrite it.
