| Posted: | | | | I am evaluating this program for my data base for my colleciton. The detail it provides for the disks is incredible but so far I find the search function only "acceptable". It seems to only find the disk by title if you seach it exactly as it is printed; ie: if you omit one of the preceeding words from the title it is not found.
BUT my real problem is this...... I store my DVDs in multiple locations. After finding that I do OWN the DVD I need to know where it is located. The Personalize section under DVD provides a place for "Location" and "Slot" which I think will work great for this, the trouble is I cannot acces this function with mouse click or tab. IS THIS because I am on Trial Version, or because of some glitch in my download?
Thanks for any answer and advice which will allow me to try this out so I am assured that my purchase will be the correct one |

| Posted: | | | | hello, welcome to the board.
the search function can be set to filter for full substring, which will eliminate the need for typing the preceding words, and enable you to quickly search for titles by typing a partial title in. you can set this by going to "Filters" on the bottom left below your collection list, and checking the "substring search" box. then simply click "Collection List" to go back to your list, and use the search box located in the top tool bar. if you have not yet explored the filters menu... you will quickly find that you can search for discs by almost any criteria and it is extremely useful.
the location and slot feature is actually designed to go by individual disc, not by title (ie each disc of a 5 disc set is loaded into "dvd changer 1" slot "1,2,3,4,5". It will work for your purposes, however it will technically be a workaround.
You can not edit the location slot from the right click "personalize" menu. you will need to double click the title in the list to go into the "edit profile" section of the program. then select the personal information bar from the left hand side. under "discs" for most titles you should see something like:
1. Main Feature 2. Bonus Material
if you see this you can then highlight one of those discs at a time and add the location / slot.
if there are no discs added for the particular title you own (this is a user built database after all, and is not always complete depending on your region/locality and taste in film) you can go to the "discs" menu from the left bar of the edit screen and add the discs in the set yourself.
hope this was helpful in your choice to continue use of dvd profiler 3.x - let us know if there are any other questions you have. i have no doubt you will quickly find that this is the best program for cataloging your dvd collection. | | | -JoN | | | Last edited: by ruineddaydreams |

| Posted: | | | | As far as location of titles goes - the approach I have taken is to use the Tags function. This allows me to group them by Shelf number or Storage Folder.
my 2p worth.

hope this helps!! I had done this, and it shows exactly what I wanted. But, I am not sure what the "colleciton number" has to do with this... I guess I feel like that number is internal to the Data Base and is changable, so why would I care what it is? My long term plan is to delete this from the visible listing. Am I making a mistake to do that? YOUR comments are appreciated. |

| Posted: | | | | As far as I can tell, for your purposes you only need to have the disc location column showing, there's no need to have the collection number there as well. It's just that some people also use the collection number to designate a slot/sleeve/changer number, so it could also be used to track a disc's location. |
